Multiple Read Errors on disk3

Featured Replies

Hey all,

I just got notified that disk3 is having read errors. I ran a short SMART without errors. I am inclined to just swap the disk out because age and I'd like this server to be up (I have taken the array offline). However, I thought I should run these diagnostics by the pros before I start a rebuild.

Any help greatly appreciated! Thanks.

It's logged as a disk problem, and SMART is showing issues, short test is not a good way to test the disk, you can run an extended test, but these type of errors could be intermittent.

I think you meant NOT a good way to test the disk?

Thanks guys. Extended test failed. As is my memory apparently. I had read errors back in May on this same drive. Everything tested fine, and a reboot seemed to make everyone happy. However, when I opened my spreadsheet for my drive inventories, I saw a note that said "read errors on disk3, keep an eye on"  << which I apparently did not do. Life stuff.

Anyway, I'm 95% through a drive rebuild after swapping in a spare. I'm gonna call that drive toast.

Thanks again! I appreciate you.
