v6.12.13 Device Disk 4 Indentification "Not Installed" and Cannot access shares from Windows 10

Featured Replies

My server ran for almost 800 days without reboot or updating.  It was running on an older version as I had trouble about 5 years ago running Plex on newer versions of Unraid so I gave up on upgrades and simply left the server running on UPS.  At some point near the end of the long run a hard drive (Disk 4) must have failed.  I have a replacement drive I would like to install.  After shutdown and cleaning the out the dust bunnies, the server would not reboot.  I ended up upgrading the BIOS and finally got the server back up and running but cannot access the shares.  I can see the files listed under Shares in the Unraid application but the only way to access those files is to download them to my workstation ... one by one ... sigh.

Hope you can help me out or set me in the right direction to rectify my server.

I submitted the above information as a Ticket ... just not sure which is the appropriate method to get some help to restore my server and access my files.  All my photos, videos, documents are on this server.  I have purchased a couple of 14TB My Book Desktop HDDs to ensure I have backups in the future.

Thanks all.

Okay, making progress ... added a new drive and assigned it to the Missing Device Disk 4.  It is rebuildig and will take 12 hours, so that is my cue to leave it alone and go to bed!

It is possible one or more drives have file system corruption (possibly the drive being rebuilt) and this can cause these symptoms.  As was mentioned the diagnostics would show this.

Here is the Diagnostics.

All drives are running following the replacement drive installation and parity check (took about 15 hours)

Files are accesible in the Unraid browser on a one by one basis to download to the workstation ... not very useful for user access.

When I connect to the server IP address in File Explorer using \\192.168.2.204, I get the full list of folders such as Movies, Music, Photos etc., including each server folder such as cache, disk1, disk2, disk3 etc.

When I connect to the server name address in File Explorer using \\tphs04 (which is the method I have used for years), I get a single folder "Photos" with Properties that state under the Offline Files tab "This folder is offline because of a network disconnection or unavailable shared folder."

If I try using say \\tphs04\Public which is a share that I created on the server, I get the following error:

"Windows cannot access \\tphs04\public ... Check the spellinf of the name, Otherwise ... yada yada yada"

If I try using say \\192.168.2.204\public, I can access the folder without an issue.

Although I am grateful to be able to access my files once again, what has changed the I can not longer access using the server name but must use the IP address?  DNS issue?

Rebuild complete successfully, just a few ATA errors on disk3, recommend replacing the SATA cable.
