Parity Drive question

Featured Replies

Since the parity drive needs to be larger than the largest data drive, when doing a parity sync does it write to whatever is left over?

Lets say the parity drive is 2 TB and the largest data drive is 1.5 TB. When doing the initial sync will unRAID write zero's to the remaining 500GB or just leave it alone? Just asking for interests sake more than anything

It will write zero's. Then, if you add a new 2T data drive, which has to be zero'd to be added, the zeros on the parity and data drive will keep the parity correct.

Thanks, just didn't know if it would.

Parity is going at about 70 MB/s. Will speed up after the 1.5 mark I'd assume with nothing to read except itself.

Just a small correction, parity drive does not need to be larger, it needs to be equal or larger.
