March 1, 201214 yr Hi gents Im a new user on version 4.7 I have precleared 3 drives and selected them under devices as disks 1-3. When I click on main they are not listed, even after a refresh and reboot. Am I missing a step? A 4th drive I was preclearing froze at 31 seconds into the preclear session. I tried 3 times and it froze at the same point each time. Is the drive damaged in some way? Thank you for any help. March 1, 201214 yr 4.7 does not support 3T disks unless you shrink the available size via a HPA. You will have to use the beta to use the full capacity of the 3T drives. As for the preclear locking up - yes, that is likely a drive issue. Peter
March 1, 201214 yr Author That would explain it then! Thank you. I assume the preclear im running under 4.7 is fine for 3tb drives though? It shows its status as detecting 3,000,000,000(ish) bytes.
March 1, 201214 yr Yes, the newest preclear script will do it's think on the drives just fine. The underlying system will recognize and work with the drives just fine but the MBR partitioning used in 4.7 does not allow the 3T drives to be used as part of the array. Peer
March 3, 201214 yr Author I replaced the 2 files on my flash with the new ones from the latest beta and rebooted but I still seem to be running 4.7. What could I have done wrong?
March 3, 201214 yr Try again but follow upgrade instructions here http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php?title=UnRAID_Server_Version_5.0-beta_Release_Notes
March 3, 201214 yr Author As my installation is new the only steps from the release notes that were relavent to me were to replace the files with the beta ones. I must be missing something.
March 3, 201214 yr As my installation is new the only steps from the release notes that were relavent to me were to replace the files with the beta ones. I must be missing something. Perhaps the section for a new installation: Installation on a New Flash Device To make a bootable USB Flash device using Windows (XP/Vista/Win7), follow these steps: Plug your USB Flash device into your Windows PC. Open 'My Computer' (XP) or 'Computer' (Vista/Win7) and right-click your Flash device. Click 'Format...', set the volume label to UNRAID and then click 'Start'. Important: the volume label must be set exactly to UNRAID (all caps). Click on your Flash device (to open it) and drag then entire contents of the unRAID Server zip file to the Flash. For Windows XP, click on the file 'make_bootable'. A DOS window will open and run the 'syslinux' utility on the Flash. For Windows Vista or Windows 7, right-click on the file 'make_bootable' and select 'Run as administrator'. Once again, right-click your Flash device in 'My Computer' or 'Computer' and then click 'Eject'. Your Flash device is now ready to boot into unRAID Server OS. /quote]
March 3, 201214 yr Author I don't think thats aimed at me. My USB was sent by lime tech and ive used it to preclear a few drives. Its a new server with no settings but its not a tottally new USB.
March 4, 201214 yr Map I replaced the 2 files on my flash with the new ones from the latest beta and rebooted but I still seem to be running 4.7. What could I have done wrong? This read like you upgraded your unRaid from 4.7 to a beta foe the 3tb drive support. Which 2 files did you replace and with what download on unRaid?
March 4, 201214 yr Author Thats right, I replaced the bzimage and bzroot files with the beta14 files from unraids downloads section.
March 4, 201214 yr Thats right, I replaced the bzimage and bzroot files with the beta14 files from unraids downloads section. You deleted the 3 files from the config directory and rebooted as well? Since yours is new all those files might not be present. The permissions part is not needed since drives were never set up. If so I'd backup the license file if you have one, wipe the USB clean and do a fresh install of the beta. I'd go as far as downloading the beta again or at lease perform a md5 check to ensure it's complete and accurate. Post back what up find. Thanks
March 4, 201214 yr Author Thanks for the sugestions. Those 3 files weren't on my USB so didnt do anything there. There is a preclear running but should finish tomorrow so ill post back once ive tried the fresh install. Thanks again.
March 5, 201214 yr Author Im at a loss here. Ive reformatted the USB drive and copied the beta onto it, replaced the licence file with the original one registered to me, copied unmenu and preclear to it, then booted it up. It still says 4.7! I feel like im going crazy. It also says unregistered.
March 5, 201214 yr Just to confirm, there is only one thumb drive attached to that machine? Are you sure the machine is rebooting? Sleep mode on my computer sounds like a reboot. In what folder did you put the license file?
March 5, 201214 yr Author I didn't want to reply to this thread once I read your last post. I feel like a fool! There was a 2nd USB stick in the back of the server which I used ages ago to test the free unraid server. Thank you for pointing it out and yes I feel about 1" tall at the moment. The beta loaded after I removed it but the licence hasn't been copied over. I see a text file from my backup, is that all I need to copy over?
