November 4, 20241 yr Excuse my simply formulated question... I haven't dug into the subject well yet...but have a few basic understanding questions.... I currently have an AMD 7800X3D. When I assign the same CPU cores to multiple VMs, I keep having crashes of the unraid host system. Is this due to the multiple CPU core assignment? Is it a problem if I assign the same CPU cores to several of my VMs? In a host system, CPUs and CPU cores are also used in parallel by several processes. Is the hypervisor trying to “protect” the cores here, or are they “blocked” by the other VM? I thought that allocating the entire cores might make more sense than distributing dedicated cores per VM - since more and more CPUs have specialized cores (and these are divided into chiplets). With Intel it is even more complicated due to the P(erfomance) and E(fficency) cores. So if I only assign slow cores to a VM here, the VM is lame and the whole system suffers because it can't distribute the load across the cores as it might do on its own, right? Is there perhaps a current and good article somewhere on how CPU management works in Unraid? I have another question about the iGPUs, but I'll make a separate thread for that... November 5, 20241 yr Author I've found this... https://docs.unraid.net/unraid-os/manual/additional-settings/#cpu-pinning Is there a more in-depth explanation page for this somewhere?
