November 4, 20241 yr I got a couple of errors this morning - first my cache drive (SSD) has "current pending ecc cnt is 1" and then almost immediately that it was returned to normal. about 5 hours later, I got an error that there's a disk with read errors. My syslogs are attached - please let me know if there's anything else I should post. Description: Array has 1 disk with read errors Importance: warning Disk 17 - TOSHIBA_HDWG480_X170A07SFR0H (sdu) (errors 2) Of course I'm leaving for vacation this week. Should I shutdown the array until I return? Edited November 5, 20241 yr by axeman
November 4, 20241 yr Community Expert There's no SMART report for that disk, it may have dropped, reboot and post new diags after array start.
November 4, 20241 yr Community Expert SMART looks fine, could be a power/connection issue or spin down related, I would replace/swap cables first and then see if it happens again.
November 4, 20241 yr Author Thanks - I reseated the power and cables, no dice. moved the drive to another slot in the bay, no dice. I think I saw somewhere that I have to unassign, start the array and then re-assign for it to recognize the drive again?
November 5, 20241 yr Community Expert Solution Changing cables/slot won't re-enable a disabled device, for that you need to rebuild, but only rebuild on top if the emulated disk is still mounting and contents look correct. https://docs.unraid.net/unraid-os/manual/storage-management#rebuilding-a-drive-onto-itself
November 5, 20241 yr Author Would it be safer for me to shuffle the contents out of the drive to the rest of the array? Or am I just creating more work for the array? Thank you!
November 5, 20241 yr Community Expert As long as the emulated disk is mounting, that will only create more unnecessary activity.
November 5, 20241 yr Author This will sound dumb - but how do I confirm if the disk is actually mounting? When I click the red X, Unraid happily tells me it'll spin-up the drive - and I see temps. I see the light for it light up during the spin-up operation. I checked on /dev/disk/by-id/ and see it listed there. Thank you.
November 5, 20241 yr Community Expert Post new diags with the array started, or look at the filesystem stats on main for that disk, if there's used/free space it mounted, if not it will show unmountable there.
November 5, 20241 yr Author Thanks - procedure worked as expected - drive is currently rebuilding. I appreciate you!
November 6, 20241 yr Author hmm looks like that physical slot on my case is bad (I moved it back to the original location). As the rebuild progressed, I got a bunch of crc errors. Once the rebuild is done, I guess mark that slot as bad and move drive physically to another? Event: Unraid Disk 17 SMART health [199] Subject: Warning [RIGEL] - udma crc error count is 20755 Description: TOSHIBA_HDWG480_X170A07SFR0H (sdu) Importance: warning
