March 4, 201214 yr Hey guys, I have a 4 drive setup I want to expand to 8 drives and need some feedback. I have 4x 2tb green drives right now running on an Asus H67 M LE and Intel G620 1155 processor. I want to add 1x 7200 rpm and 3x more green drives. I currently use an Antec EA380D with no issues, but know that it is dual rail and might give me boot issues with more drives. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371033&Tpk=ea380d Specs : +3.3V@20A, +5V@20A, +12V1@17A, +12V2@15A, [email protected], [email protected] Will I have issues down the road with booting? I also purchased a Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 for extra drives. Thanks for the advice! Andrew
March 5, 201214 yr To play it safe, you should assume that the smaller rail (15A) is what will be used for your drives. Assume 2A for each green drive, and 3A for each 7200 RPM drive. You are proposing a total of 7 Green drives and 1 7200 RPM drive for a total of 17A, which is over spec for your PSU. However, WD Green drives actually use about 1.5A each, so if all of your Greens are WDs then you might be OK. If you want to play it safe, then upgrade to a Corsair 430W.
