GPU passthrough to VM causes Unraid WebUI to lock up and system must be hard-reset

Featured Replies

I have been running a Windows 10 VM for a while with no GPU, using just the built in VNC connection with zero issues. I recently obtained a Nvidia T1000 GPU to use on that VM. If I select that GPU to pass-through, when I start the VM, the Unraid UI freezes. I can no longer access the WebUI from any device on the network. The strange thing is, all dockers still work fine (i.e. plex streaming) and all my shares are still accessible and usable.

I can issue a shutdown command directly on the system running Unraid, but it fails to gracefully shutdown. Once booted back up I can remove the GPU from pass-through and the VM and WebUI work fine.

I am running Unraid 6.12.4

I have attached the syslog that was created when the system was unable to gracefully shut down. If any additional information would help, please let me know.

TIA

Have you tried a memtest? From their official website as it's the latest version.

Could be a RAM issue.

I have been testing RAM for a couple hours now. So far no errors. I am running 128gb DDR3 ECC.

Wishing you luck brother, after 4 days of troubleshooting I seemed to have fixed my own issue with Unraid freezing after running docker apps / pausing parity check. Turns out for me CPU pinning was the solution. I highly recommend you to buy a premium subscription to Perplexity.ai with Sonnet 3.5 model in the settings. It's a complete game changer. It's like chatGPT but it's the only AI bot that searches the web EXTENSIVELY for every single question you ask it. Absolute life changer.

It gave me the idea to try CPU pinning because system resources were competing against each other. No way I would've come up with that idea myself. You can upload the whole log file in there and it will read it. Actually let me attach it here for you, here's what Perplexity said regarding your issue:

Incredible. I will absolutely be looking into Perplexity. Very Impressed with this text file breakdown. Thank you for letting me know about it and for putting my log file into it. I will be looking into each of its suggested troubleshooting steps.

In regards to the RAM testing, I let it run overnight and all day today. No errors. I think the RAM is ok and will be moving on the suggestions from Perplexity.

Thanks again! I will update if I find a solution or any new troubleshooting info pops up.

Well it appears I am back in business.

I bound the GPU to VFIO and then passed through the GPU and its sound component and the VM started up with no issue. I have been able to remote desktop connect and install the Nvidia T1000 driver.

Thanks again man!

Also having this exact issue. This was after upgrading my graphics card to a 3060. Im on 7.0.1 so it seems somethings not resolved. Wife's currently watching plex, so I cannot reboot to get the UI back but I will try this CPU pinning and see how it unfolds! Also having this exact issue.
