Parity drive dead...can I keep system running?

Featured Replies

Ok, my parity drive is dead. Can I keep the system up and running, or will it be better to wait until I get a drive replacement? Also, what happens when a parity drive dies out? Does the system just run in a diff state or doesn't run at all? I'm kind of not sure what to do at this point.

The array will work fine but you're not protected from another failure. The safest thing to do is shutdown until it is replaced.

I re-started without the parity disk and it just doesn't start the array. This is fine for me until I get my replacement drive. Basically the system is at idle.

Thanks. Crazy it has to be my parity drive.

You should be able to press "Start" to start the array.

Oh, I see it now. I had to check the little box that asked if I was sure I want to do this. It was telling me that it will be unprotected. So right now I'm just using the array not protected! Not a good idea, but come on, what are the odds on losing another drive at this time????? Hahahahaha, could happen right now! :)

Seeing that 99% of all disk drives are un-protected in the world (most PCs, laptops, etc), odds are in your favor... but... you could be the un-lucky one.    You have an unRAID server for the protection... probably best if you replace the parity drive as soon as practical.
