March 8, 201214 yr Hi gang. About to setup my first build soon I want a movies folder which spans several drives. I also want a comics folder which is all contained on a single drive. Can someone help me understand how to do this? Also is there a way to get a report of the contents of the physical drives? For example in the case of the movie share i want which spans ten drives, it would be great to know exactly what movies are on what drives in the unlikely event of a double drive failure where i lose the contents of one or more drives At least if i could run a report omce im a while id know what data was lost and needed replacement. I realize the point is to replace a drive before a second one is lost but i suppose these things do sometimes happen with horrible timing.
March 8, 201214 yr To have movies span multiple drives you would make a folder on the root of each drive named "Movies", and set the split level to 1. You can set the included and excluded disks to control what disk the share can actually exist on as well. You could then set the allocation method to whatever you desire. High water will fill the drives up until all drives have less than half the size of the largest drive, then continue to do so halfing the amount. So If you have: Disk 1 - 1 TB Disk 2 - 500Gb Disk 3 - 250Gb unRaid would take half the 1 TB and fill it until it is half full(500GB, not putting anything on Disk 2 or Disk 3. Then it would fill all drives until 250GB is left(again not touching disk 3 because it only has 250GB free), then it would fill all three disk until full. Fill up would obviously fill up all the drives in sequence starting with Disk 1 in your array. Most Free would (again obviously) add the movies to whatever drive has the most free. To have Comics on a single drive create the folder "Comics" on the root of the drive you wish, exclude all other disks and set the split level to something high(9999 being max which would work). Then select the method "Fill up" and set the minimum free as ~2% of the maximum drive size or double the size of the largest file you would put on the drive(if the comic is usually 1 MB in size and the largest is 5 MB, you'd set the minimum free amount to 10MB) All this information is in the wiki but I cannot find the page right now,
March 8, 201214 yr Author Ok thanks very much. If i set comics to one drive, and then later want twomdrives, can that be changed? Also any thoughts on a drive contents report?
March 8, 201214 yr Look in the Wiki for the unofficial manual for share info. You can change the share settings at any time to include a new disk or exclude an existing disk and stop the writes to it while still accessing the content. As for the drive content. Easiest would be to share each drive and then access it via your PC and use a program there to list the contents. I have no idea about what program but a Google search would likely find something to try.
