bdee1
I have an unraid server which is currently using the old CoolerMaster CM Stacker case (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119039). It is using the Icy Dock drive trays (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817994020) It works well but I am thinking i would like to consolidate things and move to a rackmount style case. So I am wondering if someone could recommend a good (and affordable) rackmount case that I could switch to. Also I am wondering if someone can pint me in the right direction for an affordable to rack to put in my basement because I am thinking of putting a few of my other devices into the rack. I would search your local craigslist regularly (set up a filtered RSS feed), if you live in a large metropolitan area you would be surprised by how many pop up and very attractive prices. I would agree with that one.. there are ton in the Chicago craigslist each week. the problem is, you need a truck to get them. they are always pick-up only. Quote Link to comment
Crashagn
Seems everything that is rackmount is a little more expensive.. I think I got mine through Amazon for about $130. Makes organizing and expandibilty a whole lot easier I went with a 2 post rack. Just have to watch how deep the server cases are. I try to go for half depth cases. I wait for Newegg deals on 4u cases that I can get for about $100. The next tme I need to add more drive bays Ill be looking more into this case with 6 external 5.25 bays; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811165215 What I wouldnt give for a rack mount, half depth case with 9 external 5.25 drive bays.... Johnm
word of advice.. i would avoid a 2 post rack for servers (anything really) if you are not going to bolt it to the floor. the last thing you want is your server rack to fall backwards... Quote Link to comment
Tedd
I bought two Habey rackmount cases via ebay. A Habey RPC-410 and a DS600S. They are pretty much identical except the DS600-S has six SATAII hotswap bays instead of six internal 3.5" bays. (Both also have three 5.25" and one 3.5" open bays.) Eighteen inches deep.
