Unraid Server is slow and unresponsive

Featured Replies

Hello, I set up my first Unraid server this summer and for some months everything worked perfectly fine.

A month ago or so I experienced the first slight issues when suddenly the versions of my Docker containers would not be displayed properly anymore. Also, I had a hard time reading and editing files via SMB in my Windows file explorer. I could no longer move files without errors and the connection to the server was lost for a short moment.

Consequently, I rebooted the server, which made everything worse. The server is terribly slow and becomes unresponsive as soon as I click on a tab on the dashbord. Starting the array takes a rather long time if it works at all and causes the server to go offline for a certain time again.

I really do not now why all of this happens and have no idea how I could fix this issue also because everything takes soo long to load in the web UI.

I hope some of you can possibly see something with the help of the diagnostics file and please let me know if you need to know something else from me.

Thank you a lot!

First thought goes to the USB being at fault here... I havent read your logs though. You might want to pull the USB and back it up as a CYA situation.

The usb that you used for this, is it old?

It might be worth getting diagnostics taken with the array started so we can see if something shows up then?

Alright, I just downloaded a backup and loaded it on a high quality USB  drive using Unraid USB Creator.

Yes, the USB I am currently using is already quite old and also a cheaper model.

If I shutdown the server and exchange the old flashdrive with the new one, will it automatically recognize my license or do I have to make any adjustments on the new USB stick before replacing the old one?

Nothing obvious I spotted that should regularly cause slowdowns.   There is a parity check running due to an Unclean shutdown, however, that will affect performance until it completes.  Was that expected?

The Unclean shutdown was the result of me pressing the power button for 5 sec. because the server hung up entirely and could not be reached over the network. But the low performance persists also when no parity check is running - even when booting in safe mode. So do you also think I should try replacing the USB flashdrive?

If it were me... pull the USB and put it in another machine and see if anything funny happens... run a check disk on it etc...

But if it were me, I would replace it out right. There is a tool somewhere on the unraid site to replace the usb... fill out the information and wait for them to get back with you

I just replaced the USB flashdrive with the new one but there is no difference. Server is still very unresponsive and when I click the "start" button in order to spin up the array the web UI is stuck on the main page without starting the array.

Does anyone have another idea what could be the problem?

Alright, I think I was able to fix the issue because now everything is running smoothly again. Not sure what exactly did the trick but either it was disabling VM's and Docker and enabling them again or a firmware update I had to install. on my router. After doing these things everything worked perfectly fine again.

Anyway, thank you all for your support :)
