November 19, 20241 yr I just built my first unRAID server with all new parts other than storage. I recently saw a number of these lines in the system log under tools... Nov 18 20:08:06 Tower kernel: 5[23579]: segfault at ffffffffffffffb8 ip 000015204b77c247 sp 00007fff892ea898 error 7 in runc[57c247,15204b2fa000+4a3000] likely on CPU 15 (core 7, socket 0) Nov 18 20:08:06 Tower kernel: Code: c3 66 90 48 c7 c2 b8 ff ff ff f7 d8 64 89 02 31 c0 48 c7 05 5f 40 52 00 ff ff ff ff c3 66 0f 1f 44 00 00 48 c7 c0 b8 ff ff ff <64> c7 00 0c 00 00 00 b8 ff ff ff ff c3 66 2e 0f 1f 84 00 00 00 00 Gemini says this... The error message you've provided indicates a severe system crash, often referred to as a "kernel panic." This is a critical failure where the operating system's core functions have become unstable or corrupted. ...and listed a number of causes and suggestions. Being new to unRaid this sounds very concerning. What can I do to eliminate these errors in my system logs?
November 19, 20241 yr Author Thanks trurl. I should have known to attach the Diagnostics file after reading a number of posts in this forum. I look forward to any suggestions. tower-diagnostics-20241118-2109.zip
November 19, 20241 yr Community Expert Since memtest is only definitive if it finds errors, if you have multiple sticks try using the server with just one, if the same try with a different one, that will basically rule out bad RAM.
November 22, 20241 yr Author Solution Update: removed the ram and started installing one at a time in the primary slot and found the same error still occurring. I then updated to the latest kernel from thor2002ro and the error stopped showing up. I'm using the unofficial kernel for it's comparability with my Arc A380 GPU. I can't wait for unraid 7 to be officially released, primarily for the native intel Arc GPU support.
