March 10, 201214 yr Hey, I've been using XBMC to access my files from my mac's and PCs. its been awesome and unraid has been amazing. However, I'm now getting an Apple TV3 and an iPad so I was wondering if there are any ways for me to access my unraid box consisting of 720p MKVs etc without having to jailbreak. I don't mind jailbreaking the ATV2 tooo much but i'd like to keep the iPad as it is I think. Please, any help much appreciated!
March 10, 201214 yr Airvideo is available on unMenu and Plex on the 5.0beta. These require a dual core CPU.
March 10, 201214 yr Author I only have unraid 4.7... How hard is it to update? I don't like updating until something is 100% finished.. and also if updating is really difficult.. it'll be a bit annoying because getting SAB/SB/CP to work perfectly was a bit of a problem/mission with the cache drive et al.
March 10, 201214 yr I have unraid 4.7 and airvideo works like a charm... Install it on our unraid server and install the version on your ios device and you can pretty much view anything you can think of. (installing is only a few mouseclicks with pkgmanager in unmenu, you need to install the following: "C" compiler & development tools Jre - Java 2 Platform Standard Edition Runtime Environment AirVideo (in that order, click button, download, install, test and if all ok click on "install after reboot" Today I also discovered "Oplayer", it actually streams your video over a link and plays the mkv/xvid/divx.. I am kind of testdriving it now and it looks like it works great, if so then you do not need to have airvideo (works great but it needs a server side process and if you can do without I think we should) Both airvideo and oplayer have free ios versions so try out what you like... Easiest is to try oplayer, you only need to enter your unraid server address and it will list your shares and play your video. By the way... For IOS devices also install istat .. Gives you a really nice status screen of your unraid system on your ios device ..
March 17, 201313 yr I know this is an old thread but figure I would try posting here anyway. OPlayer appears to have a licensing issue with AC3 so I was wondering what everyone was using these days to stream content from their UnRAID server to their iOS device? I'm really looking to be able to turn my unRAID server into a streaming device that I can access remotely. Ideally, be able to turn on the server, stream content to my iPad and shutdown the server when finished. I travel a lot and would like to be able to access my content remotely without having to rip everything to mp4 so I can watch it.
March 18, 201313 yr I use airvideo as a plugin on unraid together with the airvideo app on my iphone and ipad. Works like a charm and I have not come against anything that does not play.
March 18, 201313 yr Thanks...any thoughts on "waking up" the server? Should I just use wake on LAN in the BIOS?
March 21, 201313 yr thanks...but all of that discussion is from 2008/2009. I was thinking there might be something a little more relevant or even better, some user experience with an app and WOL?!
March 23, 201313 yr More specifically, is there an iOS app that I can use that will WOL as well as stream the contents of my unRAID server? What else do I need to do to make my server accessible from outside of my own LAN? As I mentioned previously, OPlayer app works from inside my house but I have no idea how to configure my server to be visible from a wifi network outside of my own as well as be able to stream high bitrate files (OPlayer studders on my network even without audio...due to the AC3 issue).
March 24, 201313 yr Not that I know of. Also check this thread: http://www.inmethod.com/forum/posts/list/1147.page
March 26, 201313 yr Thanks...seems others have been requesting that the AirVideo app include WOL. Would probably be just what I need. Now I just need to make sure that I can install AirVideo with 4.7 as I'm not ready to make the jump to 5 just yet.
