HITACHI 3TB USB 2.0 7200 RPM drive $159.99 (free shipping) with Promo code EMCNGNB39, ends 3/14

This is a 7200RPM 3TB Hitachi drive inside this guy..

The usb 2.0 is weak.. but the drive is strong if you umm.. open it up...

This unit is a bit of a pain to open.

I hate to say it, this price is equal to or better then preflooding prices for the 7200RPM flavor of this drive.

This should make a nice parity drive.

I know it might vary -- but has anybody actually cracked the case on one of these ?

1) What model Hitachi did they find?

2) Does the Hitachi inside have a 'warranty' (verified on their website?)

3) What is the warranty period?

I'm strongly wanting to upgrade my parity drive to 3tb -- even though everything else is smaller..  Especially if it has a 64mb cache and SATA III

it was this drive in the one we busted open

I cant guarantee it is the same drive for the next one.

in fact, for all i know the next one is a 5400 rpm drive.

So far, every review states it is a 7200. In addition, we had a 7200 in the one at work that we got on thursday.

the internal one has a 3 year warranty, the external has a 1year.. We did not run the bare drive through the warranty checker.

Hitachi's are pretty stable in my opinion. You have to be very patient to get it open without damaging the case. we used a piece of plastic (similar in size to a credit card but thinner) to slide it in the grove to pop it open

I ordered 2 for myself, I don't think I'll receive it before the sale has expired in order to let you know.

I'll admit, this is potluck..

PS here is the amazon link also.. http://www.amazon.com/Hitachi-Touro-External-Drive-HTOLDXNB30001BBB/dp/B004W7DR1G/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top no sale though.

Got mine.

They are 3TB Hitachi HDS723030ALA640 Deskstar 7K3000 SATA3 7200RPM 64MB Hard Drives inside.

quick update...

it is a one way ticket .. once you start there is no going back, you break the case..

the drive has a bare drive warranty of less then a year.. 10 months.. retarded.. but i need the drive..
