November 22, 20241 yr I'm looking to by a Yottamaster 4 Bay Type C Hard Drive Enclosure (Non raid) https://www.amazon.co.uk/Yottamaster-Enclosure-Aluminum-External-Enclosure-USB3-1/dp/B09JC3939Y/ref=pd_ci_mcx_mh_mcx_views_3_image?pd_rd_w=fxEW7&content-id=amzn1.sym.d63274d0-bf52-45e7-ae69-2bcf85c5865c%3Aamzn1.symc.ca948091-a64d-450e-86d7-c161ca33337b&pf_rd_p=d63274d0-bf52-45e7-ae69-2bcf85c5865c&pf_rd_r=CC7YPGQ48P2S6MEAMQX2&pd_rd_wg=Faiod&pd_rd_r=d12caafc-3b1f-47cd-b7c7-43f9cd392eac&pd_rd_i=B09JC3939Y&th=1 Has anyone used this with Unraid? I just want to use all the disks in the Hardrive enclosure in an array in Unraid, has anyone done this with Yottamaster? So Disk 1, 2, 3 as storage, then the 4th bay as a parity backup. Thanks for the replies in advance!
November 23, 20241 yr Community Expert it is not possible nor recommend to use USB attached disk in the unraid array. There have been issues and other reports by users trying to use similar thunder port encloses to connect their "disk shelf" in a unraid array/pool. I do not recommend it. in theory with unsigned disk, one may be able to see the disk for data backup and recovery.
January 23, 20251 yr Just so you are aware. I had an issue with the Yottamaster 4 bay usb storage device (Yottamaster VN400C3 4 Bay Hard Drive Enclosure) after upgrading to Unraid v7.x. It was working on 6.x but would have a weird issue on random reboots that would swap serials or order and i would have to reboot again to resolve. But anyway. By adding in usb_storage.quirks=2109:0715:u to my syslinux config under Main, it was able to detect the correct serial numbers and my array came online. You can get your Vendor and product id from running a lsusb -v from the terminal and looking for something like this Bus 002 Device 006: ID 2109:0715 VIA Labs, Inc. VL817 SATA Adaptor Hope this helps others. PS. i dont have a parity disk. and use a M2 Nvme Cache disk for extra speed.
