Replacing Parity drives while 2 drives are down

Featured Replies

Hello.

I current have 12x 4TB drives in my array. 2 are Parity drives and 10 are pool drives.
2 of my pool drives died after I accidentally unplugged my server from my UPS.
I just purchased 2 18TB drives to use as parity drives so I can start replacing some of my 4TB drives with larger sized drives in the future because I'm running out of 3.5" bays.

The problem is that since I now have 2 failed drives I don't know if it's safe to switch my parity drives out with the 18TBs without losing data.

Do I need to buy 2 more 4TB drives to replace the failed drives to change my parity drives or can I continue to emulate the 2 4TB drives while rebuilding parity?
What would be the process for this?
Edit for a visual explanation:

Currently:

Parity:
[o] - 4TB Parity 1
[o] - 4TB Parity 2
Pool:
[o] - 4TB Disk 1
[x] - 4TB Disk 2
[o] - 4TB Disk 3
[o] - 4TB Disk 4
[o] - 4TB Disk 5
[o] - 4TB Disk 6
[o] - 4TB Disk 7
[x] - 4TB Disk 8
[o] - 4TB Disk 9
[o] - 4TB Disk 10

Ideal:

Parity:
[o] - [new] 18TB Parity 1
[o] - [new] 18TB Parity 2

Pool:
[o] - 4TB Disk 1
[o] - [swapped] 4TB Parity 1
[o] - 4TB Disk 3
[o] - 4TB Disk 4
[o] - 4TB Disk 5
[o] - 4TB Disk 6
[o] - 4TB Disk 7
[o] - [swapped] 4TB Parity 2
[o] - 4TB Disk 9
[o] - 4TB Disk 10

Thanks!

Also, are you sure the drives have died rather than simply been disabled due to a write failure?
