November 27, 20241 yr So I upgraded the hardware on my machine, and had a a bit of trouble booting. It kept going into the bios rather than booting the unraid USB. Each time I tried, it sounded hard on the hard drives, like it simultaneously parked all the heads. It wasn't a nice sound. Eventually, I thought to test other bootable USB sticks, like Memtest86 (which is passed btw) and even a Linux distro, so I started to think the problem was with the USB. Sure enough, I found the old advice of "if the EFI folder has a trailing ~ after it, rename it to EFI" and it booted right up. Now, for some reason, this has happened in the past when my PC runs AOMEI Backerupper to my share "backups" unraid disables the drive I have limited the backups share onto. It used to be Drive 1, and when it happened, I moved it to Drive 6 because I thought maybe something was going wrong in Drive 1, then Drive 6 had the same thing happen to it. But this problem seemed to go away months ago when I split the backup share to encompass both Drive 1 and Drive 6. So after renaming the EFI folder, the computer booted up nicely and all the drives were fine. But around 5 am (when my pc does backups) drive 1 and 6 were disabled by unraid. Sigh... so I figured I would do the old parity rebuild (which sucks, because it takes forever) after shutting down and checking the cables, etc) even though I think there is a bug that is causing this, but in the past nothing could be found out, so I just did the stop array, remove the drives, start it in maintence mode, and move the drives back in, but somehow it got stuck and would not let me stop the array. I tried everything for a couple of hours. Eventually, after a non-clean shutdown, when I rebooted, drive 6 and 7 now show as unmountable. As far as I know, the data on 1 and 6 should all still be there. I have no clue what is going on with 7 now (Hopefully, it is okay as it holds a lot of data), but I've never had three drives out. Am I screwed? I don't want to take any steps (like removing the drives from server and getting the data off onto my pc) until I ask here for advice. I just shut the machine down until I could work on it, and now I boot it up and sure enough it is the same. Since I logged in locally I had to take the pic with my phone so forgive the angle. I normally work remotely on it, but since I have a monitor connected I booted it in GUI mode. Any advice?
