Globally unique id

Featured Replies

I am about to purchase unraid pro but cant seem to find where the globally unique id number is on my jump drive. Can someone just give me some directions?  I'm using a Memorex 1 gig rotodrive.  Thank you.

When you fire up unraid basic, go to the http management interface.

Click on the DEVICES link at the top.

Along BOOT DEVICE you will see FLASH GUID

That's the number to supply.

so your saying i have to have unraid basic first, then i have to upgrade it to Pro from that. Thats the only way to find the guid? i cant just plug it in to another computer and find the number and give it from there?  thanks for the info

I'm sure there are other ways, but this is the quickest easiest way I know of.

You'll have to go through the motions of putting unraid onto a bootable key anyway, Therefore,

You might as well go down that route.

Test it out, then pull out your wallet and pay it out.  ;D

It's the best way to do it.  What if your usb key just won't work for some reason?  Maybe you just can't boot from it, or it could be bootable but there's some kind of incompatibility between it and your motherboard.  Install unRAID on it, see if you can get it to boot up and work, if so then purchase the license key.  If not then try another usb key and/or come to the forums for help.

You could follow the instructions in this post http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=710.0 but once again I'd rather verify that unraid will boot with the basic version...I would also use the word upgrade loosely since all you will need to do is take the file Tom sends you, copy it to your flash drive and then reboot the server.  I would call it more of unlocking the full potential of unraid.

You will want to verify that your USB Flash drive can be used with your motherboard to boot unRAID before you give its serial number to Tom for a key. Although most seem to work there have been some cases with 1Gig and larger size flash drives that have been problematic for some motherboard bios's.

It is a huge comfort to know the combination works, before committing its serial number to an upgrade-registration-key purchase.

This almost goes without saying, but I'm going to say it anyway.  Upgrading from Basic to Pro is super simple, you just copy the key over to your flash drive and reboot the server.  That's it.  You're upgraded.  All settings are remembered, so you won't save any time by not going with the Basic setup first.
