November 27, 20241 yr Hi There, I couldn't find any information about this so thought I'd ask here. What happens if you exceed the 6 drive limit for the starter edition. For example I don't really want to buy the unleashed edition for one extra drive, I'm happy with the starter edition of 6 drives. So is it possible to install a 7th drive, transfer everything from one of my smaller drives in the array and then remove that smaller drive bringing the total back to 6? Or is it a case of I'd have to transfer everything from the smaller drive somewhere else then remove that drive and install the bigger drive. Thanks!
November 27, 20241 yr Community Expert Solution You can simply replace the smaller drive with the larger drive and rebuild, assuming you have parity.
November 27, 20241 yr Community Expert Just now, trurl said: assuming you have parity Parity must be at least as large as the largest single array data disk.
November 27, 20241 yr Author Yeah I've got a parity drive installed. So it's just a simple case of removing the smaller drive for the bigger drive and letting parity rebuild?
November 27, 20241 yr Community Expert yes. The contents of the missing drive will be emulated by parity, and those emulated contents will be rebuilt onto the replacement drive.
