Need help and advice on a choice of CPUs

Featured Replies

Hello,

I haven't installed Unraid because I don't have my machine yet and I don't know the needs of this system.
As I said in my presentation, I'm lucky to have a friend who can donate a Dell Poweredge T430 to me that I'll be able to have fun with ^^.
He gives me the choice because the units he has are new, still in their box (good new from 7 years ago)
And there's a cruel dilemma! I have the choice between:

Xeon E5 2650 v4 12 Cores/24 Threads at 2.2Ghz/Turbo 2.9

Xeon E5 2667 v4 8 Cores/16 Threads at 3.2Ghz/Turbo 3.6

Xeon E5 2690 v4 14 Cores/28 Threads at 2.6Ghz/Turbo 3.5

They are all dual CPU and the amount of RAM is not a problem because I have a small stock of DDR4 ECC RAM fully compatible with the T430 and the Xeon v4.

My desired use of Unraid in addition to the obvious file sharing:
- Jellyfin or Plex (I haven't decided yet ...) one of the two will be supported by a quadro RTX 4000

- Home assistant

- certainly Frigate in the near future (or very near)

- VMs because I discovered that not long ago and I must admit that I have a lot of fun with it

I find the 2950 a bit blah (especially when you have the choice) but then I don't know if you should favor the frequency or the number of cores ...
So I would like to have your opinions on the matter and your informed advice ...
