unRAID 5.0-beta14. Cache Drive questions

Featured Replies

I do not have the pro version yet, but would like to know how unRAID handled the cache drive and data being written to it.

Scenareo. I have a process that is taking about 12 hours to complete. At the end of this process is writes out a large file of about 20GB+ to the NAS. As the file is being moved to unRAIDs cache drive, the mover script starts up and starts moving files to the array. During this processes, the large 20GB file is being modified or written to. Will the mover detect the changes and re-move the file, or will the mover fail to move it because the file is in use, or will the original process fail because mover has the file open, or is there the chance that the array will get the unmodified or incomplete version of the file while the cached version is still being modified and then deleted from the cache because modifications where not detected. I know his is a bizard question, but it will dictate how I plane to use my unRAID. These types of scenareos where not an issue with my old openFiler box, but I just want to make sure I'm not heading for disaster.

What will happen if the mover sees the file is not open and starts moving it, at which point my application wants to reopen the file at make changes. Will be program fail because the mover has it open, or will the mover cancel its move operation and move on to the next file?

Your app will likely fail because the file is already locked by the mover.

Is it possible to set up a folder on the unRAID array that is never cached? or access a folder on the cache drive that is never moved?
