Does Wireguard need me to configure my router forwarding port to remote access my folders?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I planned to use wireguard to remote access my folders when I'm not home. After creating my tunnel and peer. I received the below two messages. Is that normal?

Tunnel: Remark: configure your router with port forwarding of port XXXXXX
Peer: Remark: connect to this server using IP address XXXXXX

Yes, port forward is required for WG, you can alternately use Tailscale, which runs on top of WG and doesn't need port forwarding.

Hey Jorge, Seems like I can solve this issue by enabling UPuP. Any risk associated with enabling UPuP?

That's debatable, personally I don't like to use it.
