November 30, 20241 yr Iv upgrated to 6.12.13 ther other week (its been 2 maybe 3 years seen i updated) and 5 of 9 array drive will not spin down clicking the spin down button doesn't and i have the drive set to spin down arfter 45 mints. I thinking it has something to do with that im running two ASM1166 controllers that are 6 port cards so im thinking that i have the the 4 drives array drive and the 2 cacha drive that down button on the same controller. Nothing but the finest no name brand cards for me. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B097MQ6K31/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B097Y638X7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 All may array drives are the Seagate IronWolf, 8 TB ST8000VN004 the ones that have problems with some HBA cards hens the ASM1166 controllers. Is there anything i can do to fix this or im a better off just getting a HBA that will work with the ST8000VN004 drives. Edit Did some more chacking and one of the drives that is spining down is on the same controller as the ones that dont so i dont think its a controller problem. And the 4 that spin down are the 4 newest drives from late 2022, 2023 and 2024. Edit 2 Did shut down and restart and that looks to have fixed it. Edit 3 A week later and some thing is happing new thread its just me st8000vn004-2m2101 drives carbonblack-diagnostics-20241130-1436.zip Edited December 7, 20241 yr by 12_purple_giraffes
November 30, 20241 yr Community Expert I will always recommend the LSI hba in IT mode. Cables not included in this one: https://amzn.eu/d/6hlQWbq However, I'm not aware of kerneal issues on ASM1166 controllers drivers. this may still be a hardware issues. make sure its a HBA with chips and not a sata controler extention. just because a pcie device has sata ports doen't make it a hba. Same with raid cards. example: https://www.ebay.com/itm/153960042491 *This is what i have landed on after alot of testing
