December 2, 20241 yr Hi all, So I have seen some mixed reports and also nothing recent. I am wondering if we should schedule both the Scrub and the Balance specifically for HDD's within the normal pool if not using XFS? I currently had my scrubs to weekly but its messing with the parity checks. So I am just trying to find the right balance here and what is required or not?

December 2, 20241 yr Community Expert For the array I don't think a regular balance is necessary, unless maybe if you write/delete/modify many small files constantly. Regarding the scrub, if you do regular parity checks and no errors are found, I don't think you need a scrub, but if sync errors are found someday, you can use the scrub to confirm where the issue is. For pools, regular scrubs are recommended, regular balance can also be good if the pool typically writes/deletes/modify many small files.

Thanks JorgeB, Would it hurt to just do a monthly Scrub on the array? I've not got any errors just want to make sure I dont have any furture issues if I can help it.
