Cache Mover Plugin

Alturismo,

 

I am getting error when the mover is trying to move files to the cache. It detects the files that are running in Plex without any issues. When it tries to copy the file to the cache it errors out.

 

The first error that I notices is no space left on device. The cache has 1.5 TB of free space.

 

The second error is that it can not find the mover_excl.txt. Not sure about that one.

 

The third error is parse error: Invalid numeric literal at line 1, column 60.

 

Below is a copy of the log when it is trying to move the file/s to the cache. I also attached a screenshot of the settings in case that helps.

Cache Mover:

What would be the easiest way to temporarily disable the plug-in? The use case for turning it off would be the generation of Jellyfin trickplay files. Cache Mover sees Jellyfin accessing and copies the movie file to the cache pool. Then when the trickplay files are generated, they get stored with the movie on the cache. When Cache Mover removes the movie file from the cache pool the trickplay files are left orphaned on the cache pool making it incredibly time consuming to move them back to the array.

is Cache... really uppercase or may lowercase ?

thats the path you can configure yourself, i assume you dont have a folder "mover" on your system Share, so may either

1/ just make a folder there (Rest should be done by cache mover)

"Trickplay" a.k.a. live video scrubbing. When scrubbing through a video with this enabled, you will be able to see a live preview of the video at that timestamp.

 

Clarification on the MediaServer only mode: does it specifically look for files that Jellyfin is serving/playing or does it look for files that Jellyfin is accessing. Because Jellyfin would be accessing the files to generate the Trickplay images. But it's not serving/playing the file to a user.

as we need the jelly access ... its actually looking for current playback/s reported by jelly (or emby, plex)

 

its not looking at file access in 1st plce at all anymore as jelly likes to NOT use real files long

Perfect - I've got Jellyfin settings entered into Cache Mover. I'll set the mode to "only" and test some Trickplay generation and report back. Thank you!

Awesome explanation - I've configured to "only" mode to keep Cache Mover from moving the movie files while Trickplay generation is happening.

 

Last question - I may have gotten ahead of Cache Mover and manually deleted movie files it had cached. So Cache Mover hasn't been able to move them back and clear them from the list. Any easy way to do that? See image.

while checking (cleaner) task, it should look for non existing files (when you as sample removed yourself) and then remove them from list ... may try from terminal to enforce

Terminal command did not work. I will add that yesterday during a system hardware upgrade, I renamed the the cache pool "cache" to "cache_media"

then may open your 2 configured exclusion files and just remove them manually from there, regular text files

Can confirm - setting to "only" mode does not move the files to the cache pool when Jellyfin is generating Trickplay. Thank you! Hope this helps someone else!

I created the mover folder like you said and that resolved the mover_excl error. Thanks

You were correct on the Cache name. The GUI showed it with a capital letter but the backend was lower case. I corrected that and that resolved the space error. Now there is an error when it tries to switch over to the cached file. I did confirm that the file it is switching to is at that path.

hmm, looking into it what could be the reason

 

i dont see it in your log from your last post actually, but i assume its coming after the gdb process.

 

if so, must be "something" but shouldnt affect in any term.

 

could you check if your cache mover exclusion list is updated properly ?

your current log is just fine, that 1 message "no such file ..." you can ignore, something from the gdb process which is "nonsense"

i dont see it in your log from your last post actually, but i assume its coming after the gdb process.

 

if so, must be "something" but shouldnt affect in any term.

ok, tested mergerfs here and really a nice tool  which also answers the question about a sep cache pool if the regular cache isnt wanted therefore, i make a small run through therefore.

 

now, about your setup, just to clarify ... your Unraid Setup

 

Unraid Array

/mnt/cache

/mnt/disk1

/mnt/disk2

...

 

Unraid mergerfs

/mnt/disks/disk1

/mnt/disks/disk2

...

 

both reside on the same mashine ? so its 1 Unraid with an array and many uad disks with an mergerfs overlay for them ?

 

if so ... then it should be pretty simple

 

1/ cache mover on the mashine where the disks are (not the n100 Plex)

2/ running media Server only mode

3/ as i already fetch realpath by matching /disk* we are already setup

4/ your probably needed change, mergerfs mount ... 

 

... category.search=ff /mnt/cache:/mnt/disks/DLPool0\* /mnt/addons/Media

 

search=ff "first find" and set also your cache drive into merger fs mount ahead so it will find files on cache first ...

 

so both readed files from array or mergerfs will be copied to /cache ... which is then also nr. 1 from fs point of view ...

No rush at all... I've got enough on the go to keep me busy. I had started to add/configure cache mover on both the N100 system and the main NAS that has all of the storage. But for now I'll hold off. Take your time on the rewrite and focus on the core users 1st - I'm sure my usage case is pretty rare.

now you have a mount which includes your sep. "cache ssd, either hard or usb" in order (1st place), then regular cache, then disks, ... set your Mediaserver to use /mnt/addons/mergerfs/... instead /mnt/user/.... so once cache mover did its job and Plex would reuse the cached file, it would see it without extended removing, readding to Mediaserver to get the right order ...

 

just as Note as solution for non primary cache drive usage, but BEWARE, redoing main Path in Mediaserver is may some work ... i would first add to the existing (will create dublettes in the Mediaservers), then remove the original layout ... otherwise metadata or playstates could be lost !!!

 

This is ONLY a solution (workaround) IF your files are on /mnt/user0 actually
