What in hoping for is that if i untick vfio bind ( unbind the dgpu and make it free) , than it should be used by both vm and docker not both at once but by switching with each other with help of your plugin .

sorry, like mentioned, this cannot bypass the point when your sys and dGPU is vfio dependant, so sorry ... wont help therefore.

 

im just curious as what you describe doesnt fit in my "world" as it completey vise vers as it should be with vfio bind ...

 

but a sys which doesnt have a iGPU most likely cant handle my described scenario

My mistake , i apologise for the confusion , the corrected setup is as follows 

 

I don’t have any igpu , on my setup

bind vfio = makes dgpu unavailable for unraid , dockers even nvidia plugin doesn’t recognise it because gpu is detached from unraid , its free and only can be passthrough for VM and only VM.

Unbind vfio = the dgpu becomes available for unraid and dockers and can be used by unraid and dockers and not by VM . If i start vm it all crashes . Unbind vfio dgpu is used only by dockers and unraid and cannot be used by VMs

Currently the dGPU is vfio unbounded/ unticked but if i stop the docker containers using the dGPU manually and then when i start the Vm with gpu passthrough it all crashes like it did now.

Update : I found out that this plugin will only work for vm docker switching if there is already an igpu or some other dgpu acting as primary gpu for unraid , if we are using same dgpu for unraid and vm even if its vfio unbound the plugin wont work and system will crash … so igpu or some other primary dgpu is mandatory.

in th eend, sorry to say but as noted, with vfio bind dependency in your setup ... there is no way to bypass this ...

Is there any way to make unraid webui not use the primary dgpu so its free for both docker and vm ?

may ... search for Unraid headless and some chances with some syslinux entries ... but there is not "this 1 way" as its very hardware related ...

Is there any guide for using unraid headless ? If that’s possible i can use my dgpu in docker as well as vm with your plugin by switching

there are many different if you search the forums ... but i have to say this is meanwhile by far out of scope this topic here.

 

and to be honest, its also not really recommended as you learned the hard way, one wrong click and your server will freeze ...

 

yes, im doing it, but im aware of this ... but i cant recommend it.

 

in the end, if you find a way to run your Unraid sys "headless" to keep the dgpu untouched by the OS without vfio bind,

then yes, then you could switch between dockers and a single VM with this plugin.

very excited to try the media cache plugin.  i have been manually creating this paradigm for a while and your plug-in description sounds divine!

 

I see you are considering taking on or forking Mover Tuning, would be good to see that polished up a bit. I personally haven't had any issues but I see a few people struggling with it.

no, then i misspelled it, im just looking forward to not collide with it ... as good as possible.

 

as this feature will fill a pool up (most likely cache) and mover is running against it ... it can end up in "ping pong" ...

im looking for a solution there.

 

my usecase is simple and working fine as i usually have enough pool space left to "park" a move for a day or a tv show season for a month, but alot dont and when this plugin comes into it and ppl also have woman, daughter, son, ... which likes to watch "older shows" lying on the array and i park them on a pool again ...

 

i have to play through some scenarios and see what happens when ...

I guess if the mover tuning ignore list feature works you could probably have your script update the file with the currently cached media list and tuning would skip them until your plugin removes them from that list.
