Hey @alturismo,

Quick update: I found other culprits, but I still haven't solved the issue of another time of day when the access time is also updated. My appdata backup plugin restarted the Plex Docker. When it came back online, the Plex library scan updated the atime on the files, which reset the cache expiry timer.

This leads me to a potential solution I'd like your opinion on:

What if the plugin's logic was changed to use mtime (modified time) instead of atime?

The workflow would be:

When the plugin moves a file to the cache, it updates its mtime to the current time (touch -m). When it detects a playback, it updates the mtime again, resetting the timer.

The benefit would be that only an actual playback triggers the timer, making the system ignore background scans from Plex, Sonarr, etc.

What do you think of this approach? Do you see any potential downsides for media servers like Plex with this logic?

Thanks again for your work on this.

  • ok, never thought of that (yet)   noted, and yes, no deal breaker ... just have to think about how to tag either Docker or VM ... will leave a note here.   thanks for the feedback

  • Yes , only unbinding than reboot makes the gpu free than I attach it to VM and than it works for VM only and cannot be used for docker containers . To make it work for docker container i have to bind

sorry, but mtime is way more triggered then atime ... and when i scan a lib in plex, atime is not updated here ?

on tne other side, mtime is updated always when i do "something" ...

lets keep this up to may build a folder list with timestamp instead, even i cant reproduce it ...

For the Cache-Mover plugin can you please add a way to have multiple media servers?

already on todo here, so yes, will come

Hi hoping to get some help. I have noticed that the cache mover moves things quite quickly and have noticed that when it moves it out of the folder it shows as the file "is NOT here". I also noticed some yellow notices which I don't quite know what it means. Please see the attached and would love your advice. Thanks.Screenshot 2025-08-11 at 7.36.31 PM.png

on another note this folder relates to the downloads and it is listed as an exclusion. I added to the exclusion list under settings do I need to add anything else? do I need to remove it from the list?

Thanks appreciate the help.

not related here, something with your Nvidia card ... may streaming transcoding ...

the shown list is exclusions for mover tuning, NOT for cache mover.

cache mover is excluding them for the mover so they wont get moved to array again in the daily schedule ...

to exclude "download" folders etc ... try the proper setting

image.png

so like /completed in there will exclude this subdirectory.

yes, just cosmetic and im aware of this

sample from here

Aug 10 07:05:01 AlsServerII root: cache-cleaner: /mnt/user0/Media/TVRIPS/Supernatural/Season 15 equal in size, removing from cache

Aug 10 07:05:01 AlsServerII root: cache-cleaner: removing /mnt/cache/Media/TVRIPS/Supernatural/Season 15

Aug 10 07:05:02 AlsServerII root: cache-cleaner: /mnt/cache/Media/TVRIPS/Akte X/Season 01 7 still in range

Aug 10 07:05:02 AlsServerII root: cache-cleaner: /mnt/cache/Media/TVRIPS/Supernatural/Season 15 is NOT here

what happens here, NOT here means it ll get removed from open files listings and wont be looked for any further, in terms somebody moves, wipes, ... manually, mover triggered (if mover tuning exclusions are not used) etc etc ...

are the files there ?

ls -la /mnt/user/Media

I figured it out... had put them in the folder which I didn't allow access to, once moved it started to work. now I'm seeing another error lol. Do you know what this is related to?Screenshot 2025-09-09 at 10.09.55 PM.png

Supporting ZFS shouldn’t be too complicated. ZFS pools work the same way as cache pools, except that their names can be customized. Other than that, there are no differences. Would it be possible to add support for ZFS pools in the next beta release?

In my unraid, only one zfs pool. Name is zfs. User can add more zfs pools with different name.

ls -la /mnt

drwxrwxrwx 1 root root 98 Jun 5 17:06 cache/

drwxrwxrwx 1 root root 98 Jun 5 17:06 user/

drwxrwxrwx 6 root root 6 May 16 15:36 zfs/

if its only the name ... like /mnt/zfs/... that shouldnt be the point as you can use any pool name as wanted

image.png

and when i tested my single drive zfs formatted i couldnt see any issues, so there must be something related to datasets ...

where i currently had no time yet as i personally dont use zfs, but yes, as soon i have some spare time and rest is implemented (almost all important done) we can try together of course ;)

Do you use the zfs pool or zfs formatted disk in array?

If you use zfs disk in array, then it works the same with xfs format.

Target Pool is cache. But I need a option to define the source pool/disk. From my understanding, current script only check /mnt/disk*.

not al all ;) i only tested a zfs single pool disk as target ;) but zfs pool as target seems a issue, thats on todo list

by default, yes, but you have the Option described howto handle non array sources, thats a different story and also should already work, see link posts in header

as @limetech messed up the forum software (personal oppinion), its hard to click now directly the pinned posts.

I configured this plugin and it doesn't seem to be doing much of anything. I want it to move 4k content when it gets loaded in plex, but nothing shows up in the logs. Any help with it would be amazing.

may also put "something" in subfolder blueprint section (if you dont need it, some name which doesnt .. like /blablabla

image.png

and you dont have the postprocessing configured too, would end up in "no delete" after N time

about your issue that "nothing" happens, may show a screen from you buttom entries

image.png

consider, blueprints are blueprints, NO real values, just as samples

Gotcha, i assumed "Blue" values meant "default value is this" and you didn't have to change anything. What should I put in the postprocessing section? A lot of it I don't exactly understand what it does.

Media Server Rewrites needs to be /PlexContainerPath:/UnraidPathToSameFolder, right?

And will the first field work the way I have it? My folder names have spaces in them, so it needed a separator of some sort. Double quotes didn't save.

alot did i guess, i just added blueprints to better understand what should be ... ;)

as note, your cron entries are still "empty"

when you mouseover a field description, a ? mark will appear, i added some help text to each point

image.png

so depends on your docker setup, as Plex returns its own path the plugin needs to know what the root path would be

6 hours ago, RuneMason1 said:

same here with help

image.png

short, if thats not properly setup / configured ... the plugin will

1/ not auto clean the copied files from cache away

2/ wont exclude those files from mover in terms you use the mover function ...

so yes, its more or less mandatory to have full benefit.

yes, that should work, put your root folders in quotes, while im no friend of spaces in root folders ;) different story ;)

After the suggested fixes, here's the current configimage.png

as i prefer not creating any dirs just like that and let users choose what, where ...

may atleast create the directory /mnt/user/system/mover

when i look further, you "Cache", is it really uppercase and may not "cache" ?

and while playback runs, test your Plex return, replace YOUR_TOKEN_HERE with your token and paste result please

KEY=$(curl -s "http://192.168.2.1:32400/status/sessions?X-Plex-Token=YOUR_TOKEN_HERE" 2> /dev/null | grep -oP 'ratingKey="\K[^"]+' | shuf -n 1)

sed '$!d' | python3 -c "import sys, html; print(html.unescape(sys.stdin.read().strip()))"

Cache is for sure capitalized.

went and created the system/mover folder.

Grep result: /mastermedia/4k films/The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) {imdb-tt0948470}/The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) {imdb-tt0948470} [Remux-2160p Proper][HDR10][TrueHD Atmos 7.1][HEVC]-FGT.mkv.

i almost guess, too many special characters ... especially the {} ... may run this while your movie is playing
