worked for me now, thx mate

sorry for the inconvenience, i just became notes that some where not amused as my plugin always updates python to the last version ... and some prefered keeping a side by side installation to some older versions ...

so i need to bypass the plugin system behaviour "always update to latest ..."

i wont update any release downloads besides i really have to now ... ;)

just missing some feedback from 6.12 users here if live switch (gdb) is working now ... my tests went fine, just want to close this issue here for me now ;)

I ran into an update issue: the updater complained about a corrupt libunistring-0.9.10-x86_64-3.txz file.

Trying to resolve it on my own: I did a clean plugin install, same issue (see logs below)

Maybe something to look into?

To fix it manually i downloaded the libunistring package and installed it manually. it looks like gdb is now working!!

Thank you so mutch for this quick fix. Really cool feature tho!

Thanks for creating this! For the Cache Mover, could you help with the below?

I keep seeing this

Dec 23 21:55:02 AulakhHome root: cache-mover: open dir on disk2: /mnt/disk2/Media/Movies/Red One (2024)
Dec 23 21:57:02 AulakhHome root: cache-mover: no copy/move for /mnt/disk2/Media/Movies/Red One (2024)
Dec 23 21:58:02 AulakhHome root: cache-mover: open dir on disk2: /mnt/disk2/Media/Movies/Red One (2024)
Dec 23 22:00:02 AulakhHome root: cache-mover: no copy/move for /mnt/disk2/Media/Movies/Red One (2024)

I don't think anything moves because of the NO COPY/MOVE

Hello,

Can you please explain whole idea about cache mover? How this suppose to work?

  • Author
1 hour ago, J05u said:

Can you please explain whole idea about cache mover? How this suppose to work?

short, sample from last one here

1/ looking for open files on disks filtered by rules

2/ once triggered, waiting N seconds (in my case 120) to check again to make sure file is really open

3/ when ok, copy file to pool

image.thumb.png.f0ac50579fd4cb835aa9f86ededb740b.png

4/ when copy is done, switch "live" from disk to cache (in background) so the disk can go in spindown again

image.thumb.png.76d98b6d1e87feb7310c5ad90e203e3c.png

the idea behind "live" switching is, when you watch a movie ... you woul dhave to stop / start so the file access gets switched from disk to ssd ... which makes this idea for movies pretty obsolete ...

here you see now what happened,

once i fired up ...

image.png.7e0d92c9391cb3640cf15a2d95d241b6.png

when the job was done ... (15 min spindown time)

image.thumb.png.a7735d6138d08cc0203300edde4b7ee7.png

this all is done with these settings

image.thumb.png.2fc27ebf806b42ed5bbead4134503bb9.png

now, as we have (recommended) copied the file/s, we have dublettes ... which we usually dont need anymore after a while, so next steps are "post processing"

5/ also update access times on open files on pool disk filtered by upper rules (subfolder, filetypes)

6/ when the "Cleaner" cron runs, now ... look what we have moved

image.png.088cf2b281304bf2d2448dce91d8c029.png

7/ check if the files are still in wanted last access hours range

8/ if yes, nothing todo, if no ...

either now wipe the dublette on pool, or ... move it to recycle (if configured), or ... move back to array (user0) if it has been moved instead copied (which is not recommended, ping pong ...).

sample (enforced now)

make sure file is also on array, then ... and if file is still "in range, 7 hours agao last access ..."

image.thumb.png.ce3b60b826a2f0e9f15e02e68a6126fb.png

the "keephours" can be setted up so 1 section (secondary) can be kept longer, in my sample's TVRIPS ... as once i start a Show its not like a movie thats been watched directly, Shows here (woman or daughter) a episode may be watched "today, next week, ...) so i set this to be kept longer cached ...

these settings are responsible therefore

image.thumb.png.e0e166ae1983cba0c94b1f5342531b51.png

i also merge my list to the mover tuning plugin exclusion list to make sure the regular mover is not moving ... cached files or whatever ...

this only matters if you are using the mover tuning plugin ;) if not ...

when copy is used and the unraid mover triggeres, afaik it ll skip it as its a "dublette" anyway, but as im not using the unraid mover anymore (testing my own here actually) so i cant tell for 100% ... so i recommend the tuning plugin and use the exclusion list which will then skip cached files which will be removed, moved, ... by this plugin.

thats the feature of this plugin, so, as these jobs needs to run .. but as i dont want to watch the system all over and use ressources all the time, you have to timers to set.

1/ part 1 ... when does the plugin look for open files and so on ... (here every 10 Minutes)

means, every 10 mins i look for open files (between there is happening nothing), so as sample usecase here again

- watching started at ~ 22.55 (spinup disk ...)

- plugin (every 10 min) looked at 23.00

- plugin (every 120 seconds) checked again and started job as "ok"

- plugin ended job at ~ 23.04 (copy done, live switch done)

- - as note, if the job takes longer then 10 mins ... it will keep alive and new job wont start untel its done

plugin (every 10 min) updated access time only .. for further processing decision

the buttom 2 lines shouldnt be touched, but if someone would like to change the copy / move commands, be free ...

and when you move the mouse over a setting name, a help / Info mark (help) can be popped up, as shown here

To fix it manually i downloaded the libunistring package and installed it manually. it looks like gdb is now working!!

the download url for libunistring is wrong. The tar file contains "404: Not Found".

thanks guys, typo ;) fixed

How can I see that the plugin works? Cache Mover Logs and Cache Mover Lists ---> keeps empty. Doesn't matter if I open a file with vlc player or Plex.

install done, gdb seems to run

Yes, great, thank you for this hint. Some spaces at the right place can be a miracle. Now it works. Thanks for this great plugin.

there is something missing ...

what Unraid Version are you running on ? may provide some diagnostics as of now with the latest version i actually cant tell ... gdb should install fine on either 6.12.13+ and v7.0+

cache mover

added a exclusion function, be aware, should be a unique name ....

usecase, some working directory on the array (encoders, downloaders, ...) which may also fit in the search patterns and files are in read mode there ... so to exclude them from copy to cache ... thats what this is about.

sample, files in

/mnt/disk1/work_directory/Media/VCD/somefile.mkv

would be "work in progress" to get moved to

/mnt/disk1/Media/VCD/somefile.mkv

and the rules would be

disk1 disk2
VCD HDDVDR
.mkv

plugin would consider both source pathes as valid to be used while files in read mode  ... so to exclude we would add

/work_directory

so everything in /work_directory would be skipped

doesnt matter if its a root Share Name or a sub directory, its a regex search pattern.

The cache-mover is still doing great. love it!

Is a feature request possible?

Maybe an extra option to update the timer for a "cached" file when watched?
Currently, it will be cached for 24h or 336h static, a cool/helpful option will be to dynamically update the timer to move back to the array based on when one of the files is watched.
For example: im watching a cached tv show, the time to move back to the array will be increased with x hours.

This prevents the files will being moved back too early before I watched the whole season (since i have 336h to watch it all)
