  • ok, never thought of that (yet)   noted, and yes, no deal breaker ... just have to think about how to tag either Docker or VM ... will leave a note here.   thanks for the feedback

  • Yes , only unbinding than reboot makes the gpu free than I attach it to VM and than it works for VM only and cannot be used for docker containers . To make it work for docker container i have to bind

Happy New Year everyone!

I'm having troubles getting the PWM fan plugin working.

Under "PWM INFO & HELP" tab, I don't have anything listed under "PWM FAN INFO, available Devices". Does that mean this plugin will not work for me?

Following the info/help tab, I attempted to execute the command listed for step 1, but there isn't anything named "hwmon" and it returns an error there is no such file or directory. I'm assuming that's because there are no available devices?

Thanks

pretty sure, sadly yes ... the plugin is looking for pwm fan controllers (and it only works with pwm, no dc control).

Ok thanks. Do you think there is a way to add more support for more PWM controllers in the future? This plugin was exactly what I was looking for (PWM fan control based on HDD temps).

i dont think i understand you question ... as soon your controllers are defined by the OS it should be ok ...

this plugin does not provide any drivers ...

Cache Mover

Just installed today on 7.0.0-rc.2. At first, nothing was happening. Loaded movie from Jellyfin in browser, waited, waited some more. Before I knew it, the movie had been playing for 30 minutes in the background. Checked Cache Mover Log and Cache Mover Lists. Both blank.

Read through forum posts. Added "/" after my subfolders as below. Also loaded up a movie on a Jellyfin app on the Shield. Waited for the cron to fire - SUCCESS.

Maybe it was the "/" in the keywords, or maybe it was the browser was just caching too much of the movie and not keeping the connection open long enough for the plugin to see it.

Hope this helps someone else out there.

Many thanks!

adding a slash shouldnt make any difference (plugin does check lead, trailing slashes)

jellyfin, ok, you are now user nr. 2 im aware off and i could reproduce it, but sadly have no solution ... yet.

Jelly as sample does on remux only really short read a file, create its HLS snipplets and release the running Media File immediately again ... so for the OS, there is no "file in use" by the OS as Jelly is Serving its HLS snipplets from its own cache (always building a few minutes stream caching).

while on direct play (as expected) and transcoding (this wonders me) the used Mediafile stays open ...

thanks for the feedback

as note, you can always cross check by opening a media file via smb in VLC as saample ...

and about witing time, its described in the pinned post (Top), depending on your cron schedule, the recommended is every 10 mins ... so it ll look on 0, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, ... so when start as sample at 6.12 o'clock, 8 minutes nothing will happen, at 6.20 o'clock the trigger comes ...then waiting N seconds (recommended 120 seconds), then if still open ... run ;)

so, nice to see its working for you, sadly i ll look if i find some workaround for Jelly it seems.

besides Plex (alway working) i installed emby and jelly to cross check all possibilities and see what i can do ...

image.thumb.png.cef4308b3e92ffd4eebd0ba1543e487c.png

on my Shield TV running direct play everything works, on Browser with transcoding also, but as soon thos 2 are remuxing for container compatibility ...

and wont be an easy fix as its "invisible" to me per default ;) considering a lookup in their cache folders and may "reverse lookup" then "somehow" ...

cache mover news

ok, currently beta testing here a fix / feature as jelly (and emby) sometime drop real disk file access from their side

new feature will be, adding your media server access (ip, port, api key / token) and mode (either emby, jelly, plex)

1/ plugin will then also look for currently played files on mediaserver if there is no open file on disk/s

2/ if file exists on pool cache, only update access time, if not

3/ proceed as configured (copy or move to cache)

4/ will try to live switch if there is a "open file on disk" (plex always ok, emby jelly ... not)

5/ if yes, as before, if not, then emby/jelly should use cached file too (current beta testing here)

so this should fix the "bug" as jelly/emby sometimes dropping real file access

as side feature, there will be an exclusive mediaserver on/off/multi ...

on = ONLY mediaserver playback states are checked and files proceeded

>> smb, other, .. file access will be ignored then

off = same as before, only real open files lookup (jelly remux, emby transcode sometimes, ... will not work then properly)

multi = both, 1st open files, then mediaserver lookup

i added plex only for the "exclusive" mode as its not needed for plex (always file access given)

i leave a note when done, release prolly weekend ...

Hi, Goodjob and thanks for your Cache Mover.

after few test I fall on some issue

1. Cache Mover -> Work for my TVshow but seem not work for my movies... probably because of my folder structure maybe? -> /Media/Plex/Movies/A/A movie name, /Media/Plex/Movies/W/W movie name <- I sort every movies in a Alphabetic folder

2. after more than 24h, it don't moving the TVShow back to Array... stuck in the cache. Do I need to do something with the Mover Tuning or it suppose to do it automatically?

3. I set my cache dir to -> cache <- but in the log, the only movie it moved to cache, he sent it to -> /mnt/cache3/Media/Plex/Movies/**

  and cache3 doesnt exist....

4. Do I need to set my /Media folder to Cache -> Array. It was in Array only

Thanks

actually, yes ... otherwise this wouldnt make any sence as your OS wouldnt see any cache disk under /mnt/user/... so when the job is done, it may would work until you pause, stop, ... the media, but latest then it would start again from /mnt/user/... array.

if your Movies are not in seperate Folders, i wouldnt do it as like described, this plugin will always copy/move the complete folder ... so if you have 1 Folder called "W" and play a Movie there like "wild_movie.mkv" ... the complete Folder W with ALL content would be copied/moved ... which i wouldnt recommend at all ...

so yes, this plugin is made for "Standard" Cache > Array Media Shares with a Standard Folder Structure like recommended by all MediaServer docs, sample layout ...

../TV Shows/Show Name Here/ Season 02/episode S02E01.mkf

../Movies/Movie Name here (2024)/movie title 1080p.mkv

in this case, this will be copied / moved

../TV Shows/Show Name Here/ Season 02/*

../Movies/Movie Name here (2024)/*

Hi,

sorry still having a question to pwm fan and it seems noone else had for now.

I have set it up for CPU HDD HDD-extra

I can see HDD and HDD-extra in the log (plugin) . Not the CPU fan.

BUT: I get an email for every change the HDD fans do....

Sender:    Console and webGui login account

Topic:      cron for user root /usr/local/emhttp/plugins/pwm-fan/scripts/pwm-fan.sh

Text:       set fan to value 134

or:

Topic: cron for user root /usr/local/emhttp/plugins/pwm-fan/scripts/pwm_hdd_extra.sh

Text:  set fan to value 228

There is no log (in plugin) and no mail from CPU fan.. pwm2.... but I can control it.

So every 2 minutes there is an email from unraid.

In Unraid Notification settings there is email only selected for alerts...

But I should get alerts also on Telegram, but there is no notification for fan...

What do I have to disable?   Makes no difference if "syslog" is  yes or no or empty

Sorry if it is that simple and I only cannot see...

actually there is no unraid notifications included in pwm-fan ... just checked here as you confused me ;)

sorry, but i cant say what kinda notifications you have running, looks more like some watchdog over cronjobs which then is sending notifications ... whyever ...

image.png.bac5966b3df948e045a072fcb71f8da9.png

and there are no notifications in any ...

i wanted to add them maybe, but as this would be way too much spam ... i dropped it.

as sample, cache mover has notifications ...

sorry, but cant help here

pwn-fan

Hello alturismo,
First of all, a big thank you for your pwn-fan plugin and the effort you put into its development!

I just started using Unraid yesterday and am still getting familiar with it. My system consists of an ASRock N100M motherboard on which I’ve installed two Noctua fans (1x CPU and 1x HDD). I successfully installed the plugin, but I’m unsure if there’s anything else I need to consider to ensure everything runs correctly. For example, do I need to configure anything additional to enable the plugin to autostart?

I’ve also entered the minimum and maximum RPM values provided by Noctua. Is that fine, or is there anything specific I should keep in mind?

Thank you in advance for your help, and once again, great work on the plugin!

Hallo alturismo,

actually you didnt configured anything really ... sample

those fields are not configured from your side, the "light blue" are just samples what could be in there ...

and your rpm values are way off ...

when you mouseover slightly left from the setting name, there comes a "?" ... when you click it, it ll open a help for each field ...

also here

but as sample, here also on a asrock n100m, also noctua ;) my settings ... apply, set cron, thats it

Thank you very much for your detailed response and help!

I have now largely copied your settings. The only differences are "hwmon1" instead of "hwmon2," as "hwmon1" is displayed under the PWM Fan Info, and the HDD drive designations — I have a total of 4. Is this correct?

Unfortunately, the plugin doesn't seem to work for me; I can't see any changes in the fan speeds (HDD Fan stays around 600rpm and CPU Fan around 400rpm), even when both the HDD and CPU temperatures exceed the threshold. Additionally, the log unfortunately remains empty. Can you help me somehow?

with this, well, your cron entries are failed ...

yours
*/3****

correct would be with spaces
*/3 * * * *

and if it works or not, when you check the help page i pointed out upper, you can test your fans manually

replace hwmon, pwm... with yours and try in terminal ... but may just start with fixing your crons ;)

Testing Fans in Unraids Terminal as sample
------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. activate OS Control for a Fan
------------------------------------------------------------------------
echo 1 > /sys/devices/platform/nct6775.672/hwmon/hwmon2/pwm7_enable
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Info, echo 1 > ... once done the fan is controlled only by OS
to return to BIOS Control, most likely a reboot is required
------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. set speed value for a Fan from 0 - 255
------------------------------------------------------------------------
echo 255 > /sys/devices/platform/nct6775.672/hwmon/hwmon2/pwm7
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Info, echo 0 - 255 > ... to check if pwm control is functional
while 0 is off and 255 is max
note your prefered min / max values for setup
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fans which are adjustable can be setted up for HDD / CPU setup
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cache Mover Update

see the extra part in the config page (here incl. opened help sections)

image.thumb.png.962009e8038f5a447f9133f6f8317f70.png

Media Server Mode:

off (or empty), will ONLY run regular mode like before ;)

only == will ONLY check open files from your Mediaserver's currently playback !!!

>> following regular rules (subfolder, filetype, exclusion, wait for double check)

>> will NOT look for other open files like smb playback etc ...

multi == will 1st look regular ALL open Media files, THEN look extra for your configured Mediaserver

>> jelly (and sometimes emby) release open files in some circumstances (sample, remuxing for web player on jelly), so there where no real openfiles as jelly does a quick open, caching itself, releasing open file ... this plugin couldnt find it anymore ...

>> now we are basically looking for running playback, if file is not on cache, copy it to cache, if file is also open on filesystem, do a live switch like regular mode too, if file was not open during playback (cause cached by jelly as sample), the next open cycle from jelly will open the file also from cache as /mnt/user/ is primary cache (should be ;)).

this should now be pretty final for all use cases ...

please remember some mandatory setup for this to have fun with

- used Media Shares should be setted as primary cache, secondary array

- file structure should be the "recommended way"

- - ../Movies/Movie Folder/movie file here.mkv

-- ../TV Shows/TV Show Folder/Season 00/episode files S00Enn here.mkv

then you get the expected behaviour and enjoy caching your media files

also, in terms you are using mover operations (as almost all do ;)) dont forget to also install mover tuning plugin and enable + configure the path to the mover tuning exclusion file !!! then this plugin can take care of your cached files ;)

feedback welcome for the new feature

Now that the Media Server option is available for Cache Mover, I thought I'd take another look at it. I have a scenario that you may not have come across. I've been collecting media for over 50 years now (yes, I'm old-AF). I've got over 750TB of media across all the different types - movies, tv, music, documentaries, concerts, etc. Alas with the unRAID array limited to 28 data drives, I eventually outgrew it and now have a split 'Media' folder.

My 2nd 'array' is actually a pool created using the mergerfs plugin. This pool uses an additional 28 data disks, all mounted using Unassigned Devices (UD) - they are mounted at /mnt/disks/<diskname>. As the Cache Mover plugin only looks at the disks for the main unRAID array, I couldn't previously watch for anything opened on the mergerfs pool. Because of this I never bothered with trying out the plugin.

The other aspect that makes my setup unique is that I run my mediaserver containers for Plex and Jellyfin on another unRAID system - a N100 based uSFF (Beelink EQ12 series). The media itself all resides on the main unRAID and the media servers access it via a 1Gbps network connection with the shares mapped under UD. Now that the Media Server option has been added, I'm taking another look at using the plugin.

My first issue is where to install the plugin. As I'll be using the Media Server option only, I suspect it should be installed on the N100 system. But as the media is on the other server, it looks like Cache Mover will try to copy the playing media from the other server to the only drive in the N100 system - a 512GB m.2 SSD which is just over half full with all of the Plex and Jellyfin config/metadata folders. That's assuming it works at all with the actual media files being located on the other server.

As I'm limited by both the size of the m.2 SSD and the 1Gbps NIC in the N100, it can affect the files that are being played. I can upgrade the m.2 SSD to something larger or even add a SATA SSD, but there's nothing I can do about the 1Gbps NIC. Well, I could try a USB to 2.5Gbps or 5Gbps NIC, which would also require a switch upgrade so it's a little costly.

Ideally I'd like Cache Mover to run on the main NAS as it has a larger 4TB cache pool for the temporary file moves. But with the split media folder between the unRAID and mergerfs arrays, I'll still only be to use the plugin with the media on the unRAID array. You state that even when using Media Server mode, it still requires setup for the array disks.

Any thoughts on how this scenario might be able to utilize the Cache Mover plugin? I understand if its too much work to implement a solution that would support my split arrays. Certainly there are likely only a few users with a setup similar to mine.  I could actually move the 28 data disks in the current unRAID array to the mergerfs pool, so all 56 disks under one array. But they still don't mount under /mnt but rather /mnt/disks.

Regardless, thanks for your contributions to the unRAID community!

in short, let me think about it ;)

about your question, actually the plugin should work on the main NAS while checking the "remote" Plex, here its more a point how your Librarys are inserted into Plex ... and also, may easiest to run a 2nd instance on your 2nd Unraid if its all working as expected like i think ?

and with Plex there shouldnt be any issues, while jelly could make issues with "loosing" files, that was actually the reason for this update ... i ll make some tests here with a scene like this ...

Plex > Server1

Array/cache > Server2 (plugin 1)

Array/cache > Server3 (plugin 2)

but please let me know how your libs are setted up, /mnt/disks/...

cause when i think about it, Plex on 1/ should just access /mnt/remotes/server1 ?

I do run a 2nd instance of Plex on the Main server (AnimNAS). That instance is for testing new releases of Plex before implementing on the AnimMini system. It is configured with a small subset of my media to use for testing. I don't run a 2nd instance of Jellyfin as it's not my main media server app - just a backup for troubleshooting when Plex refuses to play a file, although it does index the exact same folders for media as the Plex instance uses.

My layout is the same on both the unRAID and mergerfs arrays on the main unRAID system (AnimNAS). Here are examples of 3 folders:

unRAID:

/mnt/user/Media/Movies

/mnt/user/Media/TV

/mnt/user/Media/Music

etc

mergerfs:

/mnt/addons/Media/Movies

/mnt/addons/Media/TV

/mnt/addons/Media/Music

etc

Below is the Main tab showing the layout of the AnimMini server that runs the Plex and Jellyfin containers. No media is stored on this machine unless Plex or JF are transcoding, and those transcoded items are never kept. You can see in the UD section there are mappings for 3 shares from the main unRAID.

Mountpoints:

AnimDL_Media is the mergerfs pool/array - 256TB of media

AnimNAS_Media is the unRAID array - 494TB of media

AnimNAS_tempstore is a share for my nightly backups of appdata (the Plex and Jellyfin config/metadata folders) but no media is stored in this share.

AnimMini is the Beelink EQ12 running an unRAID legacy Basic license used only for the Plex and Jellyfin Docker containers. I do this as the N100 has the same media encoders as the Intel iGPU on the 12th through 14th gen Intel CPUs so it's an excellent device for when transcoding is required. I play everything locally via Direct Play myself, but the Plex and JF instances are shared with family who occasionally need to have content transcoded (they all use Firesticks whereas I use a 2019 Nvidia Shield Pro).

AnimMini-Main.thumb.jpg.576be99f81197d77b2d4f55cd152acf4.jpg

As for layout of the mergerfs pool, the 28 disks are labelled DLPoolxxx, so they appear like this:

/mnt/disks/DLPool001

/mnt/disks/DLPool002

.

.

/mnt/disks/DLPool027

/mnt/disks/DLPool028

MergerFS combines these individual disks just like shfs does for the unRAID array of 28 data disks. The entire mergerfs pool is mounted at /mnt/addons. Both AnimNAS and AnimMini are running unRAID 7.0.0 stable as of yesterday.

Let me know if you need more info or clarification. Thanks!
