How to remove 2nd nvme from raid 1 btrfs and go back to single drive cache?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I need some help. Ever since I've installed a second nvme for cache in raid 1 btrfs, I've got nothing but issues. I think it's something to do with the mobo. The second nvme is installed on the m.2_2 slot. The second nvme keeps dropping off line and I know this because the temperature would disappear like in the pic. After reading tons of stuff, it could be the power state of the mobo and I just couldn't make it work. I would reboot and after a few days, sometimes a week, it'll drop off line again. I changed the bios settings already and turned off aspm and change the settings on boot sequence of unraid with pcie off. Still no luck so at this point I just want to remove the second nvme and just have 1 for a cache. Now my question is how do I remove the second nvme from the raid 1 pool. Do I just stop the array, unassigned it, start the array with the "are you sure you want to do this" box checked, let it rebuild, then turn off the array and physically removed the 2nd nvme? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you

a more advanced user may need to assit you here the issue i have is that the raid array will start but be broken. since they are a copyied mirro atm you would need to break the arry delete the cache pool make a new cache pool format the 1 disk and use unasgned to copy the data back over.

Pre stop services.
untoggle any autostarts. VMs, Dockers, LXC
Settings docker off Setting VM off...

so:
stop the array
unasgned 1 of the disk
start the array

*Should start degraded missing the disk

Othewise you will need to use the New config options.
stop the array
Tools> new config.
*Keep other disk settings!!! you only wnat to erase cached pool
run new config > Main Tab
delet the caceh pool
add a new pool 1 disk call it cache
assign a disk to be used and start the array and reformat if asked...

if formated, use unasigned disk pluign to mount the disk and copy dat back to cache disk

If the pool is raid1 you just need to stop the array, unassign the device you want to remove and start the array, but before that, post the diagnostics to confirm the current pool config.
