SOLVED - apcupsd versions

Featured Replies

Hi

So a complet novice but through lots of effort and reading i have an unraid server running on HP N40L microserver hardware, so far so very very good.

Had problems with APC ups but got the issue resolved after a lot of hunting around, seems you need some additional function from V5.0 so i now have this installed

So to the question - there are 2 versions of apcupsd in unmenu, i have both installed, only the older one works with the /dev/ttyUSB0 addition in serial port part of the .conf file. The newer version does not work? my problem is that i have the message "Installed, but version is different. Current version='3.14.3' expected '3.14.8'" and when i reboot the new version is installed - how do i remove the new version so its not seen as installed or how do i get it not to use the newer version on reboot?

I hope its not a fresh install of unmenu as i have put a lot of work into setting up a lot of the packages ....

Thanks for any help

Using the unMenu package manger configure one of the versions to install on reboot and the other not to install on reboot. Then reboot.

Hi, Yes, that is what i thopught and that is how it is set up. It should reinstall the older version at boot and not the newer version but when i reboot it is the newer version that is now instaled and the older one says vx installed expecting vy, so its swapping the version over despit the setting in unmenu ..... and its the newer version that is not working so i have to go and reinstall the old one and we are fine again. How do i eliminate or prevent this from happening

What i want to be able to do is remove all record of apcupsd and then only install the older stable version so the program does not get confused (its like its got both occupying the same space or something?) but i do not know how to do a complete remove of a package rather than just set it not to auto install on boot - is it simply a case of removing the apcupsd folder (and if so does someone know the command and location for this in unmenu)

I checked the sccripts area of unmenu and only the old version has an ....auto_install in packages but that is not stopping the newer version from being installed, its like both version have mixed into one - but only almost

Hope that makes sense - Thanks for the help

OK, due to some issues trying to get shares to work i have done several soft reboots and it seems to be working fine now !! will do a hard shut down later and restart to see if that also still works fine - sometimes these things can drive you crazy !!

Just to confirm that i did need to install the 5.0 r14 beta to get the UPSA (SC420I) to work

Will get back and confirm either way

As you are on 5.0b14 can't you just install the apcupsd plugin? It will install 3.14.10.

Don't know if the plugin has advantages over the unmenu version or vice-versa.

Did not know there was a direct plug in - maybe i should check it out but for now it all seems to be working so i will leave it alone until i have all my data moved across and the parity disk installed - it takes a long time to move a lot of data !

Thanks

The versions of apcupsd installed through unMENU have worked for years with all of the 4.X versions of unRAID.  They also work with the 5.0beta series.    There was no need to upgrade to use them.  (You would need to upgrade to use the "plugin" designed for the 5.0 series, but only because the 5.X plugin's management page uses graphical features built into the 5.X series, not because apcupsd won't work.)

Hi - There was a .... service, file .... p120xx or something, cannot remeber what it was now but you gave some support to someone else who had a similar problem and said for them to upgrade as this item was included in 5.0 r6 i think it was so i went for the newest version available and it worked once i had also done some config changes. This is because i have a serial to USB cable as my UPS only has serial and my HP server does not have this and so i needed a serial to USB service.

Hope that reminds you of why i went for the upgrade

now I remember a bit more.  You needed it for the serial/usb driver.

Yes Joe, exactly  :)

And i now have my shares on my media player working as well. Had to reboot everything and then do the new permissions again to reset everything. Now going to copy over a load more movies and music and see how that goes.

For now i will mark this closed unless i run into more problems

Thanks for all the help > UnRaid has a convert  :D
