Preclearing a 4TB drive - time to run seems extreme to me

Featured Replies

Hello,

I am in the process of adding an older 4 TB drive into an array. I decided to run preclear on it first and it seems to be taking a very long time to run.
I have done this before and I don't remember it taking this long.

Could someone let me know if this is 'normal'?

From the preclear progress report:

I may have just found the reason - this is from the disk log and it indicates errors and failed commands so it looks like this isn't a disk I should use for anything. Is that correct?

Thanks in advance for any help on this.

You can get those sorts of errors from cabling issues (SATA or power) so the disk might be OK.

I replaced the SATA cable and that resolved the issue.

Thanks very much for your help.
