I just saw a good deal on hard drive at the Fry's store, here is the link: http://www.frys.com/product/6449922?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

Could someone please let me know if it is a good hard drive to have as a parity drive? Are they durable?

At $99 they seem like a good deal.

Thanks,

Sagun

That's the Seagate 2TB LP with 4k sectors. It is a fine drive. Not a bad price at $100 for 2TB for today.

Mines been running fine for over a year.

It is what it is... Another 2TB drive..

I had a bad experience with the early models. but, I do have several of this model. so far they have not let me down.

While they are still not my favorite drive. they get the job done just fine. I have them in both unRAID and WHS2011

one thing I will point point out. this drive is discontinued.

This is a 3 platter model, it has been replaced with the 2 platter model (ST2000DL003).

The newer ST2000DL003 has a 64MB cache and much higher platter density making it a faster drive then this one.

You might consider just ordering the new model from newegg, it is $119 there. If you get free shipping, no Tax and no cost of gas driving around. that makes more sense for a faster drive.

the other side of the coin is, you can get the Fry's drive today and it is a tested model.

I've got 3 of them.  I haven't had any issues with them.
