Syslog server not saving log after crash

Featured Replies

I am not sure what I am doing wrong but I have enabled Syslog Server from the Settings menu and selected "appdata" as the Local Syslog folder. My unraid system just crashed (again) and there is no log in the appdata folder. How can I get the system log saved so I have a reasonable chance of finding out why my Unraid system is crashing?

Did you remember to either put your server’s address into the Remote Server field or set the mirror to flash option?   You need to have set one of those to get anything recorded as otherwise you are just listening for messages from other servers.

Well stupid me. Thanks! I didn't want to write it to the flash. My appdata folder is in an SSD cache which is what I prefer. That's why I didn't set mirroring to flash.

I put in my local IP address and then checked the appdata folder and now I see a syslog file there. When I run the diagnostics report will it always take this file?

I do not think so (I could be wrong) when not using the mirror to flash option.
