Need help recovering from two data disk failures (Only one Parity Drive_) - Unraid 6.9.2

@trurl, thanks for all the help to this point!   I have two new drives in hand.   Pre-Clearing them now.  I also was able to successfully upgrade to v 6.12.14 so I can use all the new tools / plugins.

As for your last recovery path, I only have 6 SATA channels on this motherboard, so I cannot build a new array with the new disks and then copy the data, as I just don't have anywhere to plug in the old drives.  :(

I was thinking to try and clone both the failed drives and create a new config with the clones.  Does this seem viable (Assuming the clones work)?

tnx!

You could try that.

What hardware would you use to clone?

@trurl, I was going to just temporarily pull out my parity drive to do the copies / duplication.  Then when completed, put the parity back in, along with the two duplicated drives and then re-establish the parity.  At least that was what I was thinking..   def open to other options / suggestions.   I have plenty of time to decide/ plan as I wait for the pre-clears to complete. :)

tnx

@trurl / @JorgeB, Hopefully my last question for ya. :)

- Disk 2 (which is "disabled") - I was able to perform a ddrescue of disk 2 to a new drive without any errors - assume everything is OK on the new backup drive.

- Disk 4 (Has SMART Errors) - When I attempt to ddrescue from it, It drops offline about 5%-10% in.   I was able to get a listing of all the files on the drive and I have backups of anything critical.  I will recover from offline copies.

Next steps:

- Swap disk 2 with the ddrescue backup

- Swap disk 4 with an empty pre-cleared disk

- Run new Config - with "Preserve current assignments" enabled.

I assume the array will start and the only things I should be missing are the files on disk 4.

Does this sound correct, do you see any issues or better options to recover?

thanks!

Yes, that should work, you just need to assign the new disks 2 and 4 before starting the array.

@JorgeB / @trurl, Thanks for all your help on this!!   I'm back up and running (for the most part).   While I lost a little bit of data, it's nothing I can't live without.  Along the way I did a ton of other upgrades, so I look at as a positive, lol...

Upgraded to latest rev of unraid, changing drive format to XFS, added 2 more TB of storage, upgraded cache from 128 GB to 500 GB drive, tested cloud recovery process. :)

truly appreciate the help!
