March 25, 201214 yr Western Digital Caviar Green WD20EARS 2TB 64MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive $120 shipped after promo EMCNGHG88 (expires 3/29/2012) While these drives don't have a perfect track record (none do), I think these drives are fairly solid and a safe buy. They run at 1.5A instead of the standard 2A, which means small power savings that accumulate over time. The Hitachis are still my favorite, but I wouldn't hesitate to purchase one of these when the price is right. Remember: do NOT install a jumper on these drives when buying new. Instead, enable the MBR: 4k aligned setting on the unRAID 4.7 settings page before installing the drive. If you are using unRAID 5.0-beta, no action is needed as the option is enabled by default. The other issue to be aware of is the potential for the LCC on these drives to climb way too quickly. The appearance of this problem varies from system to system based on your usage patterns, so it won't affect everyone. More info here. If all of the above sounds like too much work, then don't buy this drive
