March 26, 201214 yr Hi So i am trying to transfer all my data onto my unraid server. I loaded a lot of films to disk 1 on which i had set a folder structure i wanted, this was reflected in the folder shares. I then created the same folder structure myself on Disk 2 and put another load of films on to that. On my computer i can see all of my disks and all of the shares and the contents of everythiong is fine. On my media player i can see all of the disks and the shares, user access is set correctly as you need to log in to a disk share (will make all of these hidden when finished) but the movie share and its sub folders (A-B-C ... D-E-F ....) are visible - now for the wierd bit. The folders from disk 1 are visible and so is the content, all plays fine. The contents of disk 2 are visible i.e. movies>A-B-C>the beach but inside the folder it says its empty, on my computer in movies is the movie file and the .jpg image ?? I have checked everything many times, I redid all of the share and user permissions to check they were exactly the same for every disk, for every user (only 2, user and root), and for every share i have rebooted everything - lots of times, i copied the movie to my desktop, deleted the original and copied it back - everything !! Is it because i copied the folders directly to the disks that its not being picked up (i thought the selection into shares was simply an agregation of the disk contents. I cannot remember if i did the first few selections to shares directly but i thought this did not matter, it did not matter how you got the files onto the disks that the shares would work their magic Why can i see everything perfectly under network on my PC but having this problem? So help, suggestions please as this is really bugging me and if i cannot resolve it will take away one of the great points of unraid !!

March 26, 201214 yr Author Just reading through some more info and have a related question Should i have, or would it be better to have the following Root - only for access directly to the server i.e. through putty Admin - set this for read, write to everything User - set to read only for some folders and nothing for others (i only want 1 user on the system - at least so far i think so) Would this help with my shares problem by requiring a log in to the shares? is it just good practice? Thanks
March 27, 201214 yr Author OK, so this is still a problem with new files i have loaded to a new disk so not sure why the share is not working properly. Is there a way to force the shares to repopulate or do i need to delete them and then switch them on when everything is loaded - although this does not help for files loaded in the future? Help with this anyone ?
March 27, 201214 yr Root - only for access directly to the server i.e. through putty Admin - set this for read, write to everything User - set to read only for some folders and nothing for others (i only want 1 user on the system - at least so far i think so) This is how I set up my server.
March 27, 201214 yr Author OK, then i will add the admin user: Can you confirm or comment on the following in terms of set up Root: password protected, only for access to server using putty and web interface - do i set this as no access to disks and shares in the web interface or what? Admin: password protected, set everything to read/write so i can work with the shares on my PC in explorer User: password protected (but does not need to be) set to read only for the shares i want to be able to access with media server. Can more than 1 person access the user account at one time i.e. can i be watching a film as user and my daughter browse the server both as user or is it one user per person or log in? I want to set all my disks to not export/hidden when i am finished so only i will be able to see and use the disks, everyone else is read only from a user account When i see the shares on my network currently on my PC i do not need to do anything if i want to move a file on the server disks or from PC to server, the access is already there so to speak, is this because they are both in the same work group? or is it a credentials thing? what will i need to do if i set up an admin account to be able to do this? I am still having issues with my media player and shares - when i access the netork on it it logs in no problem (no password needed etc - is this becuase it is also in the same workgroup?) when i want to access a disk it asks for a user and password, fine. I added some new shares and they also ask for a user and password but my original movies share does not ask for a user or password to get to the next level down but then the folders show as empty? Now if i go back to one of the new shares, try to log in, put in the user account and password i get in to that share > now if i go to the movies share and go back in everything is the same only now the contents are also there ..... Is there a way to flush all of the information out and get it to start from scratch? When i di my upgrade i had to delete some files from the flash, if i get everything set up as i want can i do something similar so it all starts from the begining as it seems to be stck somewhere in between right now Sorry for the long post but i am nearly there and want the share thing to work properly but it seems to do so for new stuff but only 50% for original shares Thanks If i have a
