BIGS Electron HTPC Case

Featured Replies

Anyone ever seen these or used one?

BIGS Electron

I really like the look of the case, might order one next week, don't need it now, just bought a Antec Fusion 430 to replace the OEM case my htpc lives in now. If it looks good I'll use it in a build, been wanting to set my parents up with one anyway.

Only concern is the quality really, chinese/korean products never really excel in quality.

Agreed.  The BIGS is a pretty bulky design, though it does give you a lot of flexibility in terms of HTPC components.  The rear 60mm fan is likely to be somewhat loud, so it might need to be replaced.  Still, for $40, it isn't a bad choice.  I personally would just prefer a sleeker design.

Yeah I not great with metric measurements and haven't bothered to convert it, but it does look bulky. Surely not as bulky as my mid-90's Receiver though! I really should upgrade my surround sound someday.

Right now next on my list is a entertainment center. Not loving what I've got now, and having trouble finding one that I like. I'll probably end up designing and building my own. Of course, I'll probably think of something else to make. I've seriously considered making a home-made Pc case.

I've recently got into etching glass and accenting it with LED's, even been selling a few. Made a steelers sign for my nephew for christmas, he absolutely loves it. His friends dad saw it when he was dropping him off one day and asked me to make a few for him. Simple to do and fun, really neat looking too! Plus, if you plan out the wiring for the LED's, you can power it from two medical batteries(big watch battery type) and because it draws so little power, it should run off the batteries for years before depleting them!

Ok, I got off topic on my own thread, guess I'll stop now..

My digital camera was in a different state with my wife when I made these, I'll have to remember to take it next time I visit my nephew.

Heh I have the Moneual 312B... it cost me about as much as all my components inside it  :-[ but it looks soooo nice :).

I've looked at them, they definitely look nice! I just don't need all the features they have, and the price is high. No doubts its worth it though!

That sure is nice looking. The one I just picked up is 2" deeper, but I love it's versatility - CM Elite 360 Mounted horizontally of course. Non-PSU version, I dropped in my own Corsair 430 80+ PSU. The last 2 HTPC cases I purchased on appearances, and of course their limitations lead me to the 360.

I bought the antec based on the good price, looks, and it does what I need it to. I can fit a 9" video card in the case, which is longer than I need. I currently have a 4350 that does everything I need it to and probably more. It can fit 2 harddrives, which I only need one for the OS(and thats only if I don't go with Openelec which I'll run off USB).

Everything else runs from the unRAID. I don't play DVD's, although I occassionally burn them so I'll probably install a dvd drive, might as well since I have 3 or 4 laying around. Might upgrade it to a bluray drive in the future.

The Antec is impressive, seems to do everything a HTPC needs to do, and it seems antec went the extra mile to reduce vibrations on it as much as possible. Plus the earthwatts 430 PSU will be more than adequate, and should be pretty reliable, the 430's were made by Seasonic in this line.

I'm still interested in the BIGS, might still pick one up in the next month or so. I am itching for another build,  :o

The Antec Fusion Black 430. Due to arrive sometime today, will probably arrive at 3:25 as I leave for work at 3:30,  ::)

EDIT: Picked it up used off of E-bay for $60, the Antec case and a Scythe Ninja Mini Rev B Cooler. I thought it was a pretty good deal so I went ahead with it, every review I've read seems like its a great case, and the scythe should let me run pretty quiet too.

Well the case did come the other day, I got it setup before I went to work but didn't get to play with it until later. The power supply was shot when I got it so I had to reuse my other powersupply, not a big deal all in all but I was planning on using that PSU in another build, now that I have a extra case, and a extra motherboard laying around(the one I recapped), I was going to stick a spare 2GB stick in it and then just needed to buy the processor and I would be ready to go!

Well after switching out the PSU, everything worked great, got the LCD setup, volume knob works, even though I'll probably never use it, it completes the illusion that the HTPC is "just another A/V unit". VERY quiet, other than the PSU fan, there is a 120mm Scythe fan and thats all. No fan on the CPU, just the Scythe Ninja Mini heatsink. Since the heatsink is so big and the exhaust fan is next to it, I just put the little air divider on the side next to the vent holes, it leaves a quarter inch gap between the divider and the heatsink, forcing any air coming into the case through the heatsink and through the harddrive bay.

So far its working pretty well, the CPU has been sitting right around 30c, hottest I've seen it get was 45c. I'm going to run some stress tests to see where it goes later. Harddrives staying in the mid-30's, which is pretty good considering there is only one fan in the entire case(the PSU fan is seperated because of the chambering so that fan doesn't help anything else).

So my review is pretty good, the Antec Fusion 430 does all it needs to and a little more. Great cooling, quiet as can be, and looks VERY nice. Definitely better than the old tower I did have sitting there.

those BIGS cases are pretty sleek especially the red wine. I personally feel i went to big on my HTPC. I got nMEDIAPC HTPC 6000B on my next build I think im going to a smaller cube or slimline. Just wanted to share that. Its just big and bulky. Just as big as my av receiver and feels cluttered to me lol. any suggestions on smaller cases anyone?

I actually was thinking about getting an old VCR and modding it to be a htpc, definite retro meets techno  :o;D
