December 21, 20241 yr Hi everyone! I'm building my new NAS and i'll soon move from OMV to unraid. I currently have 2 RAID1 that I see as a 1 disk thanks to MergeFS. Moving to Unraid I wanted to make an array and add some disks. - 2 spare disks - 4/5 disk for data - 1 1TB SSD I wanted to have my folders all in one disk (for example photos into disk1), but one folder is to big and it should be better to balance it between one or more disks. The end result that I would be something like that: - disk 1: Video, folder 1 - disk 2: video, folder 2 - disk 3: folder 3, etc. Also the SSD.. Should I put it into the array or just keep it as cache? I loved that idea that all files are created/edited/readed on the cache SSD and then copied in the array at night. My question is: there are some folders that I use all the time so I would like to have them always in cache ready to be read/writed. Would it be possible? Edited December 21, 20241 yr by Ansem

December 22, 20241 yr Author thanks, so if I can't put the SSD into the array I have two questions Plan A: use the 1TB SSD for cache -> can I force a folder to alwasy be in the cache SSD? Plan B: Use the SSD but not in the array -> Can I expose the samba share as the SSD and Array are a unique disk? So I will have the array with my folders and the SSD with the others exposed as one disk instead of 2

Yes if you want a whole share - you set the SSD pool to be the Primary Storage for a share and no secondary storage. not sure what you want with plan B: You can have the SSD as a pool in which case you determine what share(s) can use it. You can also have a SSD handled by the Unassigned devices plugin in which case the whole drive can be exposed at the S~mB level, but then it cannot participate in User Shares
