Replacing a drive on the array....What to do with appdata?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've had unRaid for a while now but still in the newbie stage. I want to replace my 4TB drives with 12TB drives. I used unbalanced to move data from my Disk 1 to the new drive, however there is still appdata on Disk 1. I have tried watching videos from SpaceInvaderOne and others on YT but these are all older and don't exactly address my issue.

So I'm trying to figure out how to keep from screwing up my docker containers.

Ive seen people say to move all my appdata to my cache drive, then replace the drives.

However I do not see an option to make cache preferred for appdata when I look.

I've also seen videos where people just directly swap out the drive and let the system rebuild.

I also notice that my docker containers are not only on disk 1, but spread across other disks on the array.

What is the best course of action?

I appreciate any help!

Do you even have a cache drive setup in a pool?

you won’t have the option to set the primary storage pool to cache if you don’t have a cache drive.

if you do, navigate to your shares tab, click on the appdata share, set primary storage to cache and secondary storage to array. Set the mover option so the arrow points TO cache.

”Array -> Cache”

Stop the entire docker service and also the VM service from the settings page.

run mover and it should move the appdata share.

I do have the cache set up in a pool.

Will the docker containers still work if everything has been moved to cache?

Yes they should. Even if they don’t there isn’t any data loss you may (1% chance) just need to recreate the docker images using the existing template.
