.....mount 2 3.5 inch harddisks inside the ms1000 case (no, not in the drive bays). On the bottom or above the PSU? Would be nice to put the parity and cache drive there. I could put 10 data drives in the bays.

    there is free space at the bottom, why not get a cheap 2-in-3/2 enclosure that is actively cooled and use that? Use high strength velcro to hold it in place.

    Which caddy do you mean? I have the hs2 version of the case with 2 ZM-HDR1 an extra ZM-HDR1. I removed all bay-covers and tray/caddies from the upper bays and put the 3rd ZM-HDR1 there. I found nothing that can hold 2 3.5" drives.
