March 29, 201214 yr Tape is back! As 60th anniversary nears, tape reinvents itself. One or two bitter sweet memories from years back when tape backups really saved my behind. I wonder if somewhere in the attic my old 40MB tapes are still readable.
March 29, 201214 yr I've got draws of tapes, qic-40, qic-80, travan-3, 4mm, 8mm, High density exabutes. sheesh... Time for me to dump them. Funny thought, I remember working on 9 track tape drives like the one pictured in the article. It was so hard for us to get rid of them. Customers were clamoring for us to keep them for our data distribution.
March 30, 201214 yr Not tape, but I remember from my early programming days having 2 8" floppy drives, 64k ram, and no hard drive (pre-8088 days). 1 Floppy had the OS and Application Programs, the other was for Data.
