Immich Facial Recognition fails in combination with PiHole

Featured Replies

Both Immich and PiHole run on my Unraid installation. Both seem to work fine, except for the facial recognition.
The problem seems to be that when the Unraid server also uses PiHole, the detection models don't want to download.
If I set the server to use a different DNS server (like 1.1.1.1), the download of the model and facial recognition works.

Is there a way to make it so PiHole is used AND the model download works?

this sounds like your pihole has blocking enabled for imichi modles....

how are you running immichi? Docker compose? Space invaders videos unraid app stoer tempalts?

which docker version are you running?

see other bug reports:

Make sure you have a mount point for the model to download to.

alot of stuff comes from github make sure that is whitelisted in pihole...
?disable pihole until imichi is finished downloading its data.

having jsut turned the back on you may neeed to go to immich administrator settings and use bufallo_s

you may be fighting graphics vram and access due to resource managment and avability.

I'm running the docker image from imagegenius from the apps section in Unraid. So nothing special.

It's not a resource problem, because if I bypass PiHole, the download works fine. Once downloaded the facial detection model works fine.

It's the downloading part that doesn't work with PiHole. I can perfectly browse to the github location on a different machine that is also using the same PiHole instance. So it doesn't seem to be PiHole itself.

pihole is then clearly blocking the website and or server immich needs to download its model.

you will need to open pihole query log and isolate immich ip address and client query view that ip and unblock the server that is being blocked.

General traversing gihub is not the same as a bot/api traversing github. Pihole is blocking something, it shouldn't unblock it...

you should have a query or quite a few of the same in that IP to see what it is being blocked. start whitelisting...
