How I Know Which RAID is Suit for Me?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a question about the RAID,

How I know which RAID is suit for me? How to choose it?

Currently I have 2 8TB HDD discs that I thought to make RAID1 (just for start), then add more 2 8TB and change it to RAID5.

The idea is to buy 4 SSDs NVME to make cache pool, but don't know which RAID to choose.

Regards.

Are these disks in a pool or in the main Unraid array?

If the main array then it uses Unraid's proprietary RAID-like support so your question is not relevant.  In the main Unraid array it is just a question of whether you want 1 or 2 parity drives regardless of the number of data drives.

If in a pool then you can pick the RAID level, but be aware that you can only change it dynamically if using BTRFS format for the pool.
