I bought one of these back before Christmas and it had a 7200rpm drive, 6GB/s, 64MB cache barracuda in it.

    Is there a trick to get these cases open without detection or does the drive itself have any warranty info on it?

    I ran the serial number off the drive itself on seagates website and it checked out as having a 5 year warranty. I don't know for sure that it would fly if the bare drive was sent in though.

     

    As for getting the drive out of its case without damaging it, it just takes patients. Those cases are snapped together pretty well.
