December 31, 20241 yr Hi All, very new to Unraid (under 60 days) and have been knee deep in renaming media (music & movies) to work well with Plex and the .arrs. I just finished and was going to start working on organizing my pictures and noticed they are all gone, the folder structure (main and sub-folders) is there but they are empty. I did have an unclean shutdown and didn't do a parity check as it didn't ask me to later in the day (it was stormy and didn't want to chance the power going out again. I did go get a UPS that day though). All of my other Shares are fine, documents, music & movies. I do have Immich installed and it's not there either. I have no idea where to look, what logs to pull or if I should do a parity check in hopes they are on that drive. I have a 1 drive 1 parity setup with a cache drive. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I had photos from 1993 to current. Thanks in advance.
December 31, 20241 yr Community Expert Parity contains none of your data. Are you sure you haven't accidentally moved the files elsewhere?
December 31, 20241 yr Author Hi there, I haven't touched those files since I started this project in November. nas-diagnostics-20241230-2113.zip Is this the file you're looking for?
December 31, 20241 yr Author So should I have set this up differently to back up the data? I thought that's what the parity did? Also, when I went into the tools tab and went to pictures, I can see a thumbs.db file in some of the folders that I can't see in the Shares tab. Not sure if that helps
December 31, 20241 yr Community Expert Have you used the Dynamix File Manager (installed on your Unraid server and accessible through the Unraid GUI) to look for these missing files? Have looked for these files using Immich?
December 31, 20241 yr Author Hi Frank1940. I've looked everywhere I can think of for these files. I see the folder was modified on 12/9/24 but I haven't touched it since installing immich in November. I've been working on my music files for the last month or so. No one else in the house has access or uses it yet as I'm still getting everything setup/fine-tuned.

Parity just allows a missing disk to be reconstructed from all the other disks. https://docs.unraid.net/unraid-os/overview/nas/#parity-protected-array
December 31, 20241 yr Author Thank you, that's my misunderstanding. Where you able to find anything from the logs I added?
December 31, 20241 yr Community Expert Nothing obvious in diagnostics. Someone or something must have deleted or moved them. Very easy to drag files and then accidentally drop them in the wrong place.
December 31, 20241 yr Community Expert There's nothing in the logs that explains missing data, do you remember if disk1 was showing more used space? Data getting deleted is most commonly caused by having the server exposed to the Internet or a misconfigured media container doing cleanups
December 31, 20241 yr Author I don't recall it showing more space. I believe it's been the same. The strange part to me is the fact that the folder structure is there and all of the .jpegs are gone. The .pdfs and other file types are still there.

And I would've had to go into each sub-folder (over 40 of them) to drag the pictures out or delete them. I'm stumped on this one. I'm going to shut it down and restart the server. See if it's something to do with the unclean shutdown that happened over the weekend.
January 2, 20251 yr Author So far no luck in figuring out what happened to my pictures. I shutdown and restarted the server and still nothing. I'm not sure if I should do a parity check or maybe try a recovery tool to see if the files were deleted.
January 2, 20251 yr Community Expert Parity check won't do anything for this, you try a file recovery app like UFS explorer.
