[Help] Cannot Establish Handshake in Wireguard VPN

Featured Replies

I had VPN working a a year ago but it stopped working beginning of 2024 when I stopped using my pihole and updated unraid to unraid 6. I finally am getting around to updating things and I cannot get VPN to establish a handshake. I am fairly certain all my settings are correct.

VPN settings attached as an image.

For ref:

  1. I am using a dynamic DNS which is active and have confirmed it routes to my public IP
  2. I have setup port forwarding on my netgear router (see img)
  3. I have setup a static route since I am not using NAT
  4. I can access internet when using VPN but I cannot access any Unraid things which makes me think that port forwarding is working and something else is at play
  5. I have had DNS issues before with my router so I am using cloudflare IP as my DNS, not sure if that would affect this

Any suggestions is appreciated, thanks

I assume that unraid ip is 192.168.1.20
Make sure unraid can ping the local endpoint that may not work and the vpn manger may require IP # only...

peer type of access...

you may want remote access to server.

atm it looks like your system is set to fail as the only allowed ip is itself.
that should be the subnet...

alos double check unriads network settings for wg0 and a iproute. if that is missing, there is no on or off ramp into wg0

review the docs:
https://unraid.net/blog/wireguard-on-unraid

*Port forwards are nat rules. looks like your using a netgear router of some kind. nat needs to be enabled for Netgear port routing...
may alos be the local server uses nat.. You may need to add another port forward for that subnet to the port forwarding...
you have no router route for that port to traverse 192.168.1.0/24 to 10.243.0.0/24

double check that the wireguard setting can ping out as well.
