I am thinking of going with an unraid solution as my NAS 6TB is nearly full and rather slow.

I am new to linux and have home mixed with apple and windows devices. I am primarily considering unraid for just a couple key purposes:

  • massive storage for music, video, photos, system back ups and time machine share
  • nas like functionality (bit torrent downloads)

So I am wondering about a few things.

1.  Can an unraid server actually be easily used as media server (Plex) and also serve as transcoder without me needing to be command line guru?

2.  Does snbnaz+ couch potato and other media download apps work just as well when incorporated into unraid OS as they would from windows machine?

3.  What advantage would I have using unraid as a server (media server, download server, etc) compared to just using as massive raid array and having all other apps on a windows machine?
