Is it safe to delete the 'user0' share?

Is it safe to delete the 'user0' share?
My understanding is that it is deprecated so I would like to delete it to prevent accidental use.

No.  I think it is still used as part of normal system operation.

Why do you think it is likely to ever be used accidentally?

Thanks

As when browsing the folder structure I could accidentally select it instead of 'user'image.png.46e584d2e9e6a888f593f71f6256a1d4.png

I would not of thought this would cause much of an issue as it would just mean you end up copying to the array instead of (if configured) a cache pool.

I know Limetech have announced it is deprecated so they reserve the right to remove it, and hopefully they will let us know when it is no longer needed.   However I suspect a number of backup related plugins may still rely on it being present.

user0 is the unraid array, or at least a symlink to it

Minus any files that are on cache devices!   As I recall, LimeTech marked it 'deprecated' because the the Unraid OS not longer was using it.  The announcement was met with a small storm of protest about how it was being used for certain purposes.  Apparently, it was decided at that time to just leave it alone for the foreseeable future...

yeah like I said, the unraid array.. which doesn't include any pools 😉

@supermoocow, You had best be careful if you decide to play around at attempting to remove.  You could end up deleting all of the files on your array.

I don't think it is.  Or it is not behaving like the symlink that I have created for testing purposes...

Deleting "user0" would remove any and all files on your HDDs in your array. Would not advise it.

/mnt/user0/ is just a way to "bypass" your primary cache pool if you have one and would write files directly to your array of HDDs.

There's no reason to delete anything under /mnt/ because at reboot anything the OS didn't put there is wiped clean.

Thanks all.

Just to clarify if I don't have a cache drive(s) then it doesn't matter if I copy files to user or user0?

If there are no pools, /mnt/user0 won't exist.
